Job description

Production Planning InternJob Summary

The Production Planning Intern will support the site’s planning and scheduling processes through data analysis, reporting, and coordination activities, while leading a structured project to define planning processes within the Epicor ERP system.

This role is ideal for students or recent graduates seeking hands-on experience in production planning, ERP implementation, and operations within a dynamic aerospace manufacturing environment.

Primary Project Assignment: Epicor Planning Process Development (MPS & MRP)

As a core component of this internship, the individual will support the development of a standardized framework for using Epicor to execute Master Production Scheduling (MPS) and Material Requirements Planning (MRP).

Project Objective

Define how the site will utilize Epicor to plan, manage, and control shop floor operations by establishing data requirements, process workflows, and planning standards.

Project Scope & Responsibilities1. Planning Process Definition
  • Document current planning and scheduling processes
  • Identify gaps and inefficiencies in existing workflows
  • Develop a future-state planning process leveraging Epicor
  • Define planning cadence, roles, and responsibilities
2. Data Requirements Identification
  • Identify and document key data elements required for planning, including:
    • Part master data (lead times, lot sizes, planning parameters)
    • Bills of material (BOMs) and routings
    • Work center capacity and constraints
    • Inventory, WIP, and demand inputs
  • Define data ownership, accuracy expectations, and update frequency
3. MPS & MRP Execution Framework
  • Define step-by-step processes for executing MPS and MRP in Epicor
  • Establish guidelines for interpreting and acting on system outputs
  • Support alignment between planning outputs and operational priorities
4. Shop Floor Integration
  • Define how planning outputs translate into executable production schedules
  • Establish feedback mechanisms between production and planning
  • Support alignment with operational constraints and bottlenecks
5. Governance & Standardization
  • Recommend standard planning parameters and policies
  • Define data governance and change control practices
  • Support consistency across planning activities
6. Reporting & Visibility
  • Identify key planning KPIs (OTD, WIP aging, capacity utilization)
  • Support development of reporting structures and dashboard requirements
General ResponsibilitiesData Analysis and Reporting
  • Collect, organize, and analyze production and inventory data
  • Assist with creation of reports and dashboards to track KPIs
  • Identify trends and support process improvement initiatives
Planning & Scheduling Support
  • Assist in maintaining production schedules
  • Monitor job progress and identify bottlenecks
  • Support communication across stakeholders
Inventory & Workflow Coordination
  • Track inventory levels and support discrepancy resolution
  • Assist in improving inventory accuracy and workflow efficiency
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work with production, supply chain, and quality teams
  • Participate in team meetings and problem-solving discussions
Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements
Key Deliverables
  • Current vs. future state process documentation
  • Data requirements matrix for Epicor planning
  • MPS/MRP Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
  • End-to-end planning workflow diagrams
  • Reporting and KPI requirements
  • Risk and improvement opportunity assessment
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with ERP systems is a plus
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Skills
  • Exposure to Power BI, Tableau, or basic SQL
  • Interest in Lean, Six Sigma, or process improvement methodologies
Work Environment
  • Primarily office-based with occasional time on the production floor
