The Role: Data Center Quality Engineer I

As a Data Center Quality Engineer I at Switch, you will support quality control activities for data center construction projects. You will help ensure projects meet established quality standards, safety requirements, and turnover expectations before delivery to Operations. This role works closely with construction teams, contractors, commissioning partners, and internal stakeholders to identify issues early and support consistent project execution. You will also build knowledge of data center systems, quality processes, and commissioning activities through hands-on project involvement and guidance from senior team members.

What Youll Do
  • Support implementation of the Data Center Quality Control program at assigned project sites.
  • Participate in regular job walks and document observations related to construction quality and project readiness.
  • Perform audits and inspections and help track corrective actions.
  • Review contractor documentation, drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Coordinate with construction managers, contractors, commissioning agents, and vendors to support quality outcomes.
  • Support equipment delivery coordination with manufacturers and Procurement teams.
  • Attend factory witness testing and vendor visits as needed.
  • Provide project updates and quality reporting to DCQ leadership.
  • Follow NFPA70E requirements and other site safety standards while working in live electrical environments.
  • Verify proper use of personal protective equipment and safe work practices during DCQ activities.
  • Support management of third-party quality resources and field support teams.
  • Work with commissioning partners to support Initial Verification Checklists and Pre-Functional Testing activities.
  • Assist with project closeout activities and quality documentation.
  • Maintain quality records and documentation within Cx Alloy.
  • Support operations teams during commissioning and turnover activities.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities that improve quality, consistency, or efficiency.
  • Prepare reports related to inspections, quality performance, and project status.
  • Participate in issue resolution and escalation activities.
  • Support after-hours or weekend coordination activities when project needs require it.
  • Complete administrative tasks related to project and quality tracking.
  • Independently owns defined quality activities or portions of assigned projects.
  • Exercises judgment in determining inspection approaches and resolving routine quality issues.
  • Is accountable for delivering assigned quality work with limited supervision.
  • Owns corrective action follow-up and project quality outcomes within assigned scope rather than supporting them.
  • Serves as the primary quality resource for smaller projects or defined workstreams.

What You'll Bring
  • 2-4 years of experience in construction, commissioning, operations, quality control, or a related technical field.
  • Experience supporting mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems in mission-critical or industrial environments preferred.
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Technical trade experience or equivalent field experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Introductory understanding of QA/QC processes within construction or data center environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements and safe work practices for electrical environments.
  • Experience using software tools for reporting, tracking, and data management.
  • Familiarity with EPMS, SCADA, or BMS systems preferred.
  • Ability to manage priorities, coordinate tasks, and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to work on-site and support after-hours or weekend activities when required.
