Your Opportunity
This is an opportunity to join Stantec in Williamsburg, Virginia as a wetland delineator. You will perform fieldwork, planning, scheduling, and technical support for services related to wetlands, natural resources inventories, permitting, permit compliance, regulatory support and other environmental programs. You will also write reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost effective manner.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with a team of wetland delineators
  • Conduct wetland delineations and assessments
  • Provide technical oversight and quality management of both field work and office deliverables
  • Prepare Requests for Jurisdictional Determinations
  • Map and assess vegetation communities and habitat quality
  • Monitor and write reports for wetland mitigation and stream restoration projects
  • Participate and conduct listed species surveys
  • Write technical reports
  • Perform environmental assessments, permitting, and compliance for a wide variety of projects and clients
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary environmental planning and assessments
  • Manage small to medium sized projects
  • Manage tasks on large interdisciplinary projects
  • Develop budgets, proposals, and work plans for wetland delineation and other natural resource inventory projects
  • Develop and maintain positive client and agency relationships

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of field experience (preferred) delineating wetlands according to US Army Corps of Engineers Manual and the appropriate Regional Supplements
  • Must have a professional and/or academic background in ecology, environmental science, wetlands, botany, soil science, or other related field
  • Knowledge of flora and fauna
  • Knowledge of taxonomy
  • Strong orienteering skills
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with GPS data collection technology a plus
  • Some travel, including overnight travel, is expected for this position
  • Skill in technical writing as well as environmental research and analysis
  • Able to communicate effectively and function as part of a team
  • Interest in ecosystems, natural resource conservation, and the outdoors is essential
  • Ability to solve problems using critical thinking and practical problem solving
  • Ability to complete field work with consideration to their own and the team's safety
  • Ability to prioritize project needs and adapt to changing schedules
  • Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, or related field. Demonstrated ability with plant, soil and wetland identification and characterization in the region.
Minimum 1-3 years' work experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education (e.g. advanced degree) and experience.
Co-op / Internship experience preferred.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather, hot and cold temperatures, and dense vegetation. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
