Job description

Hennepin Healthcare is an integrated system of care that includes HCMC, a nationally recognized Level I Adult Trauma Center and Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and acute care hospital, as well as a clinic system with primary care clinics located in Minneapolis and across Hennepin County. The comprehensive healthcare system includes a 473-bed academic medical center, a large outpatient Clinic & Specialty Center, and a network of clinics in the North Loop, Whittier, and East Lake Street neighborhoods of Minneapolis, and in the suburban communities of Brooklyn Park, Golden Valley, Richfield, and St. Anthony Village. Hennepin Healthcare has a large psychiatric program, home care, and operates a research institute, philanthropic foundation, and Hennepin EMS. The system is operated by Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc., a subsidiary corporation of Hennepin County.

Purpose of this position: To provide an experiential learning opportunity to individuals actively enrolled in a higher learning educational institution and pursuing a degree with a focus in substance use disorder treatment. Internship
experiences are a required element of degree programs for individuals who are seeking Alcohol and Drug Counselor Licensure through MN Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy (BBHT). Alcohol and Drug Counselor interns will work under the direct supervision of a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and will actively participate as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Supervision must relate to clinical practices and the amount and type of supervision must be documented weekly.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducts initial interviews with patients and recommends appropriate rehabilitative services
  • Provides case management and discharge planning services
  • Conducts screenings and brief interventions
  • Coordinates care with patient's medical and treatment team
  • Utilizes community resources for referrals and assistance
  • Counsels' family members as needed
  • Conducts intakes, orientations, and counseling (within treatment services)
  • Conducts educational classes and group meetings (within treatment services)
  • Conducts various types of individual and group therapies (within treatment services)
  • Participates in weekly supervision for a minimum of 1 hour
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
  • This position is part of a career progression plan. Alcohol & Drug Counselor Interns are required to be enrolled in an educational institution, working toward a degree in provision of substance use counseling services,
    and work under the general supervision of a licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor
  • Must be enrolled in an educational institution with signed learning agreement (or school equivalent) with Hennepin Healthcare System
  • Active progress in obtaining internship hours for timely completion of coursework and degree requirements
    -OR-
  • An approved equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of 245G licensed programs is preferred

Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities:
  • Enrollment in educational institution currently progressing toward degree completion in alcohol and drug counseling
