About AFP NWI
The Association of Fundraising Professionals Northwest Indiana Chapter (AFP NWI) is a professional community dedicated to advancing ethical and effective fundraising across the region. Our members include development professionals, nonprofit leaders, and philanthropists committed to growing a culture of giving in Northwest Indiana.
Position Overview
AFP NWI is seeking an enthusiastic Marketing & Communications Intern to support the chapter's Communications Committee. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in nonprofit marketing, event promotion, digital communications, and fundraising. The intern will work alongside seasoned fundraising professionals, contribute to chapter-wide initiatives, and build a portfolio of work in a collaborative environment.
You don't need to have done all of this before - we'll teach you. What we're looking for is someone eager to learn, communicate clearly, and make an impact.
What You'll Do
Your responsibilities will include a mix of creative, organizational, and communications work:
Content & Social Media
  • Draft and schedule social media posts promoting chapter events, workshops, and member news
  • Contribute to the monthly e-newsletter using Constant Contact
  • Help build and maintain an archive of chapter event photos and session highlights
  • Assist with writing press releases, member messaging, and event talking points

Event & Campaign Support
  • Support marketing and promotion for chapter events, including National Philanthropy Day
  • Assist the Communications Committee with the Be the Cause fundraising campaign - a chapter initiative engaging board members in giving
  • Help coordinate event logistics and communications in partnership with the Education Committee
  • Contribute to Eventbrite event listings and promotional outreach

Website & Contact Management
  • Help ensure the AFP NWI website is current and up to date
  • Assist with maintaining a contact list of nonprofit professionals in the region
  • Liaise with other committees to surface content and updates for the website

Planning & Strategy Support
  • Support the development of an annual marketing timeline and marketing plan for chapter events
  • Participate in committee meetings and contribute ideas for growing chapter engagement
  • Assist with sponsorship communications and benefit fulfillment for chapter sponsors

What You'll Learn

  • Digital tools including Constant Contact, Eventbrite, and social media platforms

What We're Looking For
Required

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace
  • Willingness to attend some evening or weekend chapter events
