Job description

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose 

This position supports the Systems area with projects related to SAP and internal IT tools. The intern will participate in project follow‑up, documentation, system testing, user support, and basic development activities. The role includes creating manuals in English and Spanish, assisting with project implementation, and understanding business processes to help improve efficiency. This internship provides hands‑on experience in project management, SAP functionality, process understanding, and system implementation.

Responsibilities 

  • Follow up on SAP-related projects and coordinate progress with involved departments.Participate in project meetings and support with information gathering and status updates.
  • Assist in system testing, including debugging, validation, and functional testing of new developments.
  • Create and update system manuals in English and Spanish for users.Train and support end users and explain new functionalities to management.Support IT Implementation SAP projects, including documentation, workshops, trainings, and go‑live activities.
  • Assist with basic development tasks and create reports for the business units.Understand business needs related to SAP and system development to support process improvements.
  • Collaborate with multiple areas, taking responsibility and making informed decisions.Identify areas for process improvement and cost reduction where applicable.
  • Learn SAP modules such as PP (Production Planning) and MM (Materials Management) and become familiar with commonly used transactions.
  • Participate in the full project lifecycle: implementation, development, testing, and go‑live.

Experiences/Education - Required 

  • Currently studying System Engineering or Development Engineering (required).
  • Intermediate English (for reading, writing, and creating documentation).
  • Basic understanding of programming or system development (preferred).
  • Ability to create clear and structured documentation.
  • Basic data analysis skills (Excel, testing tools, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills; ability to explain technical topics to non‑technical users.
  • Ability to work with different departments and collaborate effectively.
  • Proactive attitude and willingness to learn systems and business processes.
  • Responsibility and confidence in decision‑making.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
