What does an Internship Rust Backend Developer do?

An Internship Rust Backend Developer assists in designing, developing, and maintaining server-side applications using the Rust programming language. Their responsibilities often include writing efficient code, debugging backend systems, integrating with databases, and collaborating with senior developers to build scalable and secure services. Interns typically work on real-life projects to gain hands-on experience with Rust, learn industry best practices, and improve their programming skills in a professional environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship Rust Backend Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship Rust Backend Developer, you need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, familiarity with Rust’s syntax, and basic knowledge of backend development concepts. Experience using version control systems like Git, exposure to RESTful APIs, and familiarity with build tools and databases are typically required. Strong problem-solving ability, eagerness to learn, and effective communication skills help interns collaborate and adapt quickly. These skills are essential for contributing to real-world projects, ensuring code quality, and integrating smoothly within development teams.

What are some common challenges faced by Rust Backend Developer interns, and how can they be addressed?

Job description

Role Summary
Build and integrate the blockchain infrastructure layer that underpins digital asset custody and tokenization platforms. The posting describes this as a hands-on engineering role focused on Layer-1 blockchain integration, core blockchain infrastructure, wallet engineering, and custody-related blockchain workflows.
Key Responsibilities
• Integrate enterprise systems with existing Layer-1 blockchains and evaluate or extend Layer-1 capabilities to meet custody, scalability, and resiliency needs.
• Engineer for chain-level mechanics such as transaction lifecycle, finality, forks, reorgs, and event propagation, while ensuring blockchain integrations remain reliable under stress conditions and production loads.
• Design and build core blockchain infrastructure services including indexers, event processors, block explorers, observability tooling, chain data services and APIs, and interoperability or cross-chain integration components.
• Build and support wallet architecture, transaction creation and signing workflows, submission pipelines, and integration with custody key management systems such as MPC, HSMs, and signing services.
• Support custody-related blockchain workflows covering on-chain transaction execution, event monitoring and reconciliation, and chain-specific failure handling and recovery patterns.
• Help define safe patterns for interacting with smart contracts and token standards from custody platforms, aligned to custody approvals and risk controls.
• Apply modern engineering practices and AI-augmented development approaches for protocol analysis, code development and testing, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
Source-Supported Qualification Themes
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience building or integrating blockchain or distributed ledger systems.
• Strong understanding of Layer-1 blockchain protocols and transaction lifecycles.
• Experience building backend services, APIs, and infrastructure components.
• Proficiency in one or more languages such as Go, Java, Rust, Python, or similar.
• Ability to work effectively across custody, security, and platform teams.
• Strongly preferred: experience with blockchain indexers, explorers, or chain analytics systems; familiarity with wallet architecture and blockchain signing workflows; exposure to crypto custody platforms or security-sensitive financial systems; and experience using AI tooling to support complex software development.
