Internship Routing Analyst information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship Routing Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship Routing Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in logistics, supply chain, or a related field, often supported by ongoing or completed coursework. Familiarity with data analysis tools, routing software, and spreadsheet applications like Microsoft Excel is typically required. Effective communication, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork are crucial soft skills for collaborating with different departments and addressing routing challenges. These competencies ensure accurate and efficient routing decisions, supporting operational efficiency and organizational goals.

What does an Internship Routing Analyst do?

An Internship Routing Analyst assists in analyzing and optimizing the movement of goods, information, or services within a company’s supply chain. They support the routing team by collecting data, identifying inefficiencies, and recommending improvements for transportation or workflow processes. Typically, they work with logistics software, collaborate with different departments, and help implement cost-effective routing solutions. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in supply chain management and analytics, making it ideal for students or recent graduates interested in the logistics field.

What is the difference between Internship Routing Analyst vs Routing Coordinator?

AspectInternship Routing AnalystRouting Coordinator
Required CredentialsTypically pursuing or recent graduate with knowledge of routing systemsOften requires experience with routing software and logistics
Work EnvironmentInternship setting, learning-focused, office-basedFull-time logistics or transportation office environment
Employer & IndustryLogistics, transportation, supply chain companiesTransportation, freight, and shipping companies
Search & Comparison IntentEntry-level, learning role, internship opportunitiesOperational, coordination-focused role in logistics

The Internship Routing Analyst is an entry-level, learning-focused position often held by students or recent graduates, focusing on understanding routing systems. In contrast, a Routing Coordinator is a full-time role responsible for managing and optimizing routing operations. While both roles operate within logistics and transportation industries, the Internship Routing Analyst emphasizes gaining experience, whereas the Routing Coordinator involves more operational responsibility.

What are some common challenges faced by Internship Routing Analysts, and how can they be effectively managed?

Internship Routing Analysts often encounter challenges such as managing large volumes of data, quickly adapting to new routing software, and ensuring accurate and efficient routing solutions under tight deadlines. To effectively manage these challenges, it’s important to develop strong analytical and organizational skills, proactively communicate with team members, and seek feedback from supervisors. Many organizations provide training sessions and mentorship, which can help new analysts become comfortable with industry tools and foster professional growth.

Job description

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
Mesh Optical Technologies was founded on the belief that optical photons will be at the center of advanced technologies in the coming century. Making advanced technology ubiquitous means building at scale, and that's exactly what we're doing at Mesh.
Our products integrate precision optics and advanced packaging. The electrical systems that drive, control, and test them must meet the same performance and manufacturability bar. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to design, validate, and debug high-speed PCB assemblies across our optical hardware platform. You will work closely with senior engineers to support board bring-up, signal integrity validation, and development of the test infrastructure required for production.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design and support multilayer PCB assemblies for high-speed optical hardware, including power delivery, signal routing, and connector/interface selection
  • Assist with schematic capture and PCB layout under senior engineering guidance, applying controlled impedance routing and signal integrity best practices
  • Support board bring-up, electrical validation, and lab debugging for prototype and production hardware
  • Perform signal integrity validation using lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, VNAs, TDR, logic analyzers) and correlate measurements to design intent
  • Support development of evaluation platforms for new silicon, interconnect, and photonic components
  • Contribute to end-of-line test infrastructure, including test fixture design, firmware flashing workflows, and automated validation sequences
  • Work cross-functionally with firmware, mechanical, optical, and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure electrical designs support system integration and production scalability
  • Support electrical documentation, including schematics, BOMs, assembly drawings, and test procedures

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline
  • 2+ years of experience designing or validating hardware systems (internships or substantive project experience considered)
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium or equivalent)
  • Foundational understanding of signal integrity, controlled impedance routing, and high-speed PCB design principles
  • Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, spectrum analyzers)
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience with high-speed digital interfaces (e.g., SerDes, PCIe, Ethernet, LVDS, or MIPI)
  • Familiarity with firmware flashing and debug workflows (JTAG, SWD, ISP)
  • Exposure to automated test or manufacturing environments, including test fixture development or production test integration
  • Scripting or data analysis experience (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for test automation or measurement post-processing
  • Experience with power integrity analysis, PDN design, or power supply selection and validation
  • Familiarity with EMC/EMI design practices and regulatory compliance considerations
  • Experience with rigid-flex or high-density interconnect (HDI) PCB design
  • Familiarity with configuration management and revision control for electrical designs

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Electrical Engineer: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00/per year
Title and base salary are determined on a case by case basis commensurate with experience and merit.
In addition to base salary, compensation for this role includes:
  • Eligibility for long-term incentives including company stock options and discretionary bonuses awarded for exceptional achievements.
  • Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental insurance with significant cost covered by the company for yourself and dependents.
  • Paid parental leave and flexible PTO (3 weeks accrued vacation and 10 company holidays per year).
  • 401(k) retirement plan access.
  • Relocation assistance to sunny Los Angeles.
