Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Illinois, requiring an active IL RN license and a minimum of 1 year of PCU/stepdown experience.

Details
  • PCU/IMC/Stepdown unit within a 562-bed, Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital
  • Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AMโ€“7:15 PM); 4x12-hour schedule may be accommodated upon request
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating within the hospital and to nearby affiliate facilities is required of all travelers
  • Patient population includes cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, respiratory, renal, and post-surgical cases
  • Required cardiac monitoring skills include dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry unit monitoring, and use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Required cardiovascular experience includes post cardiac angiogram, post MI, pre/post cardiac cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, sheath removal, and TR Band
  • Required medication experience includes heparin protocols, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, PCA, and procedural sedation administration
  • Required IV/vascular skills include arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, port access, blood product administration, phlebotomy, and peripheral line care
  • Required respiratory skills include ventilated patient care, chest tubes, tracheostomy management, HFNC, CPAP/BiPAP, and ABG interpretation
  • Required neurological case experience includes CVA, TBI, craniotomy, spinal cord injury, and pre/post neurosurgery
  • Required orthopedic experience includes total joint replacements, ortho trauma, and peripheral nerve block catheters
  • Additional required skills include feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions, and skin graft/surgical drain management
  • Charting system: Cerner (experience preferred)
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Level I Trauma experience preferred
  • Scrubs: any solid color
  • Parking is available at no cost with a permit obtained during orientation
Requirements
  • Active Illinois (IL) RN license required; pending licensure not accepted
  • Minimum 1 year of PCU, IMC, stepdown, or neuro stepdown experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) โ€” must be active and from AHA or Red Cross (RQI AHA cards not accepted)
  • ACLS preferred
  • SSN and DOB required for consideration
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
Additional Information
  • Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
  • Former permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before being considered as a traveler
  • Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignment
  • RTO of 5 days or fewer is generally accommodable; requests exceeding 5 days require facility approval
  • Travel pairs (two travelers placed together) are not accepted
  • Hospital does not accept travel pairs
