Job description


Navy Federal's Enterprise Data Risk Governance (EDRG) team provides independent second-line oversight of data risk across the enterprise. The team develops and maintains the Enterprise Data Governance framework, provides effective challenge, monitors data risk, and supports consistent implementation of data governance requirements.
EDRG's work focuses on data quality, metadata management, Critical Data Elements (CDEs), data governance, and the identification and management of enterprise data risks. The team partners with Business Units and other stakeholders to assess data management practices, identify risk and control gaps, monitor remediation, and communicate data risk insights to leadership.
The Summer Associate will gain practical experience in enterprise data risk governance through day-to-day activities and a focused project. The role will include research, data analysis, risk assessment, reporting, and collaboration with data governance and risk management stakeholders.
The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2027 and ending in August 2027. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.
Responsibilities
  • Research emerging data risks, regulatory developments, industry practices, and data governance control frameworks
  • Support reviews of Business Unit practices related to data quality, metadata management, CDEs, data ownership, and data governance requirements
  • Analyze data governance documentation, risk assessments, controls, issues, and supporting evidence to identify gaps, trends, and areas requiring further review
  • Assist with EDRG effective challenge and oversight activities by documenting observations, recommendations, stakeholder responses, and resulting outcomes
  • Support monitoring of enterprise data risks, data governance standards, remediation activities, and related risk and performance indicators
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of reports, dashboards, metrics, and workflow tracking used to communicate data risk and governance progress
  • Prepare clear summaries, presentations, and supporting materials for EDRG leadership, Business Units, and other risk management stakeholders
  • Collaborate with team members and enterprise stakeholders on data risk assessments, governance initiatives, process improvements, and other assigned projects

Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Risk Management, Computer Science, Finance, or other related field
  • Interest in data governance, data quality, metadata management, enterprise risk management, or regulatory compliance
  • Experience with research, analysis, and organizing information from multiple sources
  • Familiarity with Excel, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python, or data governance tools is preferred
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, written communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate technical and risk-related information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to manage priorities and work effectively both independently and in a team environment
