What is a remote concept art internship?

A remote concept art internship is a temporary, entry-level position where aspiring concept artists work from home or another off-site location. Interns assist professional artists or design teams in visualizing ideas for games, movies, or other media by creating initial sketches, digital paintings, and design concepts. These internships help students or recent graduates gain real-world experience, build a portfolio, and develop industry-relevant skills without needing to relocate or work in an office setting.

How do remote concept art interns typically collaborate with other team members during a project?

Remote concept art interns often work closely with art directors, lead artists, and other team members through digital communication and project management tools. Collaboration usually involves participating in regular video meetings, sharing work-in-progress via cloud-based platforms, and providing feedback through chat or collaborative documents. Effective communication and responsiveness are key challenges, as interns need to stay aligned with the creative vision and deadlines without the benefit of in-person interaction. Building relationships with the team and seeking feedback proactively can help interns thrive and create strong portfolio pieces.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote concept art intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a remote concept art intern, you need a solid understanding of visual design principles, strong drawing skills, and a portfolio showcasing your creativity and versatility. Familiarity with digital art tools like Adobe Photoshop, Procreate, or Clip Studio Paint is typically required, and experience with collaborative platforms such as Slack or Trello is helpful. Strong communication, time management, and the ability to accept feedback are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration. These abilities ensure you can effectively contribute ideas, meet deadlines, and grow within a distributed creative team.

  • Comfortable working across multiple visual styles and genres
  • Ability to create clear, production-ready visual reference materials
  • Familiarity with Photoshop or other visual editing/compositing tools
  • Passion for animation, filmmaking, internet culture, and emerging creative technology

  • $300 - $800 per series
  • Los Angeles preferred (open to remote)
