About the Active Minds Internship Program
Active Minds is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization changing the culture around mental health. Through our presence at more than 800 high school and college campuses, in corporate settings, and with a wide-reaching public audience, Active Minds is creating communities of support and saving lives. Founded in 2003 by Alison Malmon after the tragic suicide of her brother Brian, Active Minds is dedicated to supporting a new generation in ending the silence, helping to make mental health as highly valued as physical health. Through our many programs – including the emotionally gripping Send Silence Packing® traveling exhibit and our compelling Active Minds Speakers – we are changing culture and behaviors related to mental health across the country. 

Our internships are geared towards current college students and recent college graduates. As a small nonprofit, Active Minds relies on the help of our interns tremendously. They work directly on important initiatives and projects and assist staff on a variety of administrative tasks. Interns have the opportunity to do substantive work, gain experience in the nonprofit sector, and help change the culture around mental health. 

All Fall 2026 internships will be remote, with an anticipated start date of September 14th, 2026  and an anticipated end date of December 4th, 2026. We expect interns to work a minimum of 20 hours a week, set a consistent work schedule between 9:00am and 5:00pm EST Monday through Friday, and commit to staying on board for the entire semester. 

Active Minds pays interns $18 per hour.

Marketing Strategy Internship
As a crucial part of the Marketing and Communications team, the Marketing Strategy Intern will support the team in developing data-driven, strategic marketing plans leveraging audience data and insights. In this role, you will analyze key marketing metrics and trends to uncover insights that directly shape impactful brand campaigns. Working collaboratively with the broader team, you will help build marketing plans, craft strategic messages, assist with project management, and drive effective initiatives designed to increase awareness and boost attendance for Active Minds programming. This role offers a unique opportunity to build hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector.

As an intern, you will

  • Drive Strategy: Learn how nonprofits analyze audience insights to develop data-driven marketing plans and targeted messaging.
  • Cultivate Creativity: Bring innovative ideas to life by supporting message creation and campaign execution.
  • Collaborate & Network: Work alongside passionate Active Minds staff members to execute projects and deepen your understanding of mental health advocacy.

Marketing Strategy interns are deeply valued members of our team. In this role, you won't just watch from the sidelines, you will actively support the mission and vision of our work through a variety of meaningful projects, making a tangible impact in ways both big and small.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for Marketing: A strong interest or experience in marketing strategy, media buying, e-commerce, and event marketing.
  • Analytical Skills: Experience and interest in problem-solving, data analytics, market trends, and KPI reporting.
  • Audience Insight: Curiosity about audience behaviors and customer segmentation development.
  • Campaign & Project Management: Experience or familiarity with integrated campaign management and project coordination.
  • Strong Communication: Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills, with specific interest or experience in crafting brand messaging and advertising copy.
  • Technical Savvy: Experience with e-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify).
  • Core Competencies: Detail-oriented, creative thinker, and a collaborative team player with a strong willingness to learn.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with Google Workspace, Zoom, Dropbox, ClickUp, and Salesforce (a plus)

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • All applicants must be currently enrolled in, or have previously attended, a U.S. based college or university
  • All applicants must be able to complete a work authorization (I-9) during onboarding 
  • All applicants must be able to complete the entirety of the internship program in the listed dates in the job description
