Job description


We are looking for an early-career Mechanical Engineer to join our Tallgrass Project Engineering team. This role offers hands-on exposure to pipeline systems, pump and compressor stations, terminals, and mechanical facilities supporting Major projects. Candidates with 0 to 5 years of experience will thrive in this position by contributing to a wide variety of projects from concept through execution.
Responsibilities
Position Responsibility
  • Support the design, specification, and analysis of mechanical systems, including pipelines, pumps, valves, pressure vessels, and rotating equipment
  • Assist in project execution, from feasibility and front-end engineering to construction support and commissioning
  • Perform calculations, material selection, and mechanical integrity assessments
  • Work closely with project managers, field personnel, and vendors to ensure technical accuracy and safety compliance
  • Participate in inspections, failure analysis, and reliability improvements of mechanical systems
  • Prepare engineering deliverables such as datasheets, reports, and drawing reviews
  • Ensure designs meet industry standards (ASME, API, DOT, etc.) and internal specifications
  • Follows prescribed procedures and conducts analyses to develop design options or recommendations.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • This role will include up to 80% travel.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution in Engineering or a related field.
  • 0 to 5 years of mechanical engineering experience (internships or co-ops in oil & gas are a plus)
  • Familiarity with mechanical equipment used in pipeline or terminal operations
  • Working knowledge of CAD and engineering analysis tools
  • Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and a proactive mindset
  • Ability to work in both office and field environments as needed

Experience/Specific Knowledge (not required):
  • Exposure to midstream project work or operations support
  • Experience with pump or compressor station design
  • Root cause analysis or mechanical integrity experience

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Competencies, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of basic Engineering principles
  • Works under direct supervision but displays initiative and moves toward requiring less supervision.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.
