Job description

Position Title: Fieldwork Coordinator for Practicum & Internship

Department: Counseling Department, College of Education and Health Sciences

Reports to: Department Chair, Counseling

Dean, College of Education and Health Sciences

Appointment: Full-time; 40 hours per week (12-month position)

Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The Fieldwork Coordinator is a full-time professional staff member responsible for coordinating clinical field experiences (Practicum and Internship) across all Counseling Program concentrations and modalities. Core responsibilities include developing and sustaining community partnerships, overseeing student placements, ensuring compliance with CACREP 2024 standards and Illinois licensure requirements, and supporting students, faculty, and site supervisors throughout the fieldwork process. This position fulfills the CACREP 2024 requirement for a designated individual to coordinate practicum and internship activities.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Counseling or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

• Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois, or equivalent credential from a reciprocal state.

• Experience in supervision, clinical training, or field placement coordination.

• Working knowledge of Illinois licensure regulations and CACREP accreditation standards for practicum and internship.

• Strong organizational, communication, and data management skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, students, site supervisors, and community partners.

• Proficiency with online learning platforms (e.g., Canvas), data management systems, and virtual meeting tools (e.g., Zoom).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in higher education.

• Experience coordinating field placements or supervising graduate counseling students.

Duties & Responsibilities:1. Clinical Site Development & Approval

• Develop and maintain partnerships with practicum and internship sites and site supervisors.

• Ensure compliance with CACREP and state licensure standards.

• Evaluate and approve potential fieldwork sites and site supervisors prior to student placement.

• Conduct site visits (in-person or virtual) as needed.

• Process student licensure-related forms and documentation

• Maintain a current database of approved clinical sites and update the fieldwork manual.

2. Student Onboarding & Placement

• Coordinate and monitor student completion of practicum/internship orientation requirements.

• Support students and site supervisors with onboarding questions or approval issues.

3. Program Oversight & Faculty Support

• Annually review and update the Practicum/Internship Manual, forms, and training materials.

• Maintain and update program website content and Canvas resources related to fieldwork procedures.

4. Events & Program Representation

• Plan and oversee Practicum and Internship Fairs (in-person and virtual), including site recruitment, logistics, communications, and follow-up.

• Represent the Counseling Program at university commencement ceremonies and relevant fieldwork-related recruitment or partnership events.

5. Other duties as appropriate
