Job description

At Caris, we understand that cancer is an ugly word-a word no one wants to hear, but one that connects us all. That's why we're not just transforming cancer care-we're changing lives.

We introduced precision medicine to the world and built an industry around the idea that every patient deserves answers as unique as their DNA. Backed by cutting-edge molecular science and AI, we ask ourselves every day:"What would I do if this patient were my mom?"That question drives everything we do.

But our mission doesn't stop with cancer. We're pushing the frontiers of medicine and leading a revolution in healthcare-driven by innovation, compassion, and purpose.

Join us in our mission to improve the human condition across multiple diseases. If you're passionate about meaningful work and want to be part of something bigger than yourself, Caris is where your impact begins.

Position Summary
The Senior Scientist, Claims and Real-World Data is a Senior-level individual contributor and the subject-matter expert behind high-quality claims-derived data products. This role designs and continually improves the transformation, harmonization, and quality control that turn raw administrative claims into reliable, research-ready real-world data linked to molecular information. It is a chance to own a scientifically rigorous data asset from end to end and to build claims data that researchers and partners trust and rely on.
Job Responsibilities

  • Own the design, transformation logic, and quality control of claims-derived data products, such as demographics, diagnoses, procedures, drugs, radiation, and mortality, ensuring fitness for purpose, traceability, and auditability.
  • Define and document claims phenotyping, line-of-therapy, treatment-episode, and outcome derivations using standardized, versioned logic.
  • Validate claims-to-molecular linkage and tokenization logic, partnering with privacy and legal teams to ensure compliant linkage and data sharing.
  • Establish quality assurance and quality control frameworks and a maintained data dictionary, emphasizing proactive, reproducible validation.
  • Serve as the claims subject-matter expert in technical discussions with partners and prospective customers.
  • Support analytics and feasibility deliverables that demonstrate the value of combined claims and molecular data.
  • Partner with clinical and data product teams to harmonize claims with electronic medical record and pathology sources.
  • Contribute to customer education, training, and documentation for real-world data.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MSc, or MPH) in epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics and outcomes research, health informatics, or a related field; or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • 5+ years working hands-on with administrative claims data (for example, medical and pharmacy claims, open and closed claims) in a real-world evidence or healthcare analytics setting.
  • Demonstrated expertise building claims-derived variables, including line of therapy, treatment episodes, comorbidity indices, and outcome and mortality endpoints.
  • Experience with claims-to-clinical or claims-to-molecular linkage, tokenization, and HIPAA-compliant data handling.
  • Strong programming skills (SQL and Python or R) and a rigorous data quality-control discipline.
  • Strong communication skills for technical discussions with partners and customers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oncology real-world-evidence experience, and familiarity with electronic medical record and molecular diagnostics data.
  • Familiarity with de-identification and expert determination, data governance, and dataset versioning.
  • Experience supporting data partnerships or real-world evidence study delivery.

Physical Demands

  • Will work at a computer most of the time, with some time spent collaborating with colleagues, partners, and business leaders, either in person or through remote conferencing.
  • Visual acuity and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail.
  • Must possess the ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.

Training

  • All job-specific, safety, and compliance training is assigned based on the job functions associated with this employee.

Other

  • This position requires periodic work-related travel (up to 20%) and some evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

Conditions of Employment: Individual must successfully complete pre-employment process, which includes criminal background check, drug screening, credit check( applicable for certain positions) and reference verification.
