Position Overview
The news team at Austin PBS is looking for an eager, creative, self-motivated intern to join our team. As a weekly news intern, you'll help support the weekly news program, Austin InSight and our ongoing community-based journalism project, Decibel. Interns get real hands-on experience and are an integral part of our team. You'll assist with studio and field productions, researching topical issues, social media content creation - all with the opportunity to work alongside a group of talented journalists and storytellers. You will be trained & mentored on the following job duties.
Role & Responsibilities
  • Write segments for weekly news show
  • Assist with studio production and field productions
  • Pitch story ideas in weekly meetings
  • Create new social media friendly content from existing packages
  • Pitch and coordinate studio and remote interviews
  • Staff remote shoots
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • Research topical issues and current events

Physical Demands
The working conditions are primarily a general office setting, with some self-provided travel to off-site events and engagements

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current undergraduate student, must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program during the full duration of the internship
  • Strongly prefer candidates majoring in journalism or related field.
  • Student must be available for a minimum of 13 weeks of this internship
  • Internship will be in-person, with some hybrid work
  • 15-20 hour weekly commitment
