Job description

Job#: 3041774
Job Description:
Software Engineering - Application Developer
Location: Lake Buena Vista, Florida (Onsite)
Role Overview
We are seeking a software engineering contractor to harden and evolve a specific NLP-based analytics application. This role adds dedicated software engineering capacity to a data science-led team, enabling separation of responsibilities between modeling and engineering concerns. The contractor will partner with the data science team that owns modeling logic and analytical methods. This position requires working Eastern Time Zone hours. The assignment is currently slated to conclude on October 3, 2026, with a possibility for extension that is not guaranteed.
Key Responsibilities
  • Separate core modeling workflows from the Streamlit application into a reusable Python package.
  • Improve code structure, testing, and CI/CD reliability in alignment with department standards.
  • Enable programmatic, non-UI access to the application's capabilities.
  • Develop architecture documentation and contributor guidance, including support for AI-assisted development.
  • Reduce operational risk by improving testability, reliability, and CI/CD practices.
  • Make the application maintainable by introducing clear architecture, documentation, and coding conventions.
  • Enable reuse by decoupling modeling workflows from the Streamlit UI and supporting non-UI access.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience in Python software architecture and refactoring, especially separating reusable domain logic from UI layers in data science contexts.
  • Experience with testing, CI/CD, and operational hardening, including pytest, integration testing, and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Docker).
  • Experience designing installable Python packages and defining clear programmatic interfaces.
  • Experience working with Streamlit applications at production scale, including multi-page apps, session state, and callbacks.
  • Ability to write clear documentation, architecture guidance, and coding conventions for both developers and AI coding assistants.
  • Familiarity with the following languages and tools: Python, Streamlit, pytest, Git, GitLab, and Docker.
  • Comfort reading and integrating Python libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, spaCy, NLTK, Gensim, Transformers, ONNX Runtime, LangChain, Plotly, and Pydantic.
  • Knowledge of development tooling including pre-commit, Black, Ruff, mypy, and Sphinx.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the R programming language.
  • Experience with the broader Streamlit ecosystem and Python packaging.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure, deployment, AI-assisted development, documentation, and quality practices.
