Quality Engineer
Santa Rosa, CA
Full-Time | Direct Hire
Salary: $85,000 – $103,000 per year DOE

Are you passionate about quality, continuous improvement, and working in a highly regulated manufacturing environment? We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join a growing medical device manufacturing team in Santa Rosa. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys collaborating across departments, improving supplier performance, and ensuring products meet the highest quality and regulatory standards.

As a Quality Engineer, you will play a key role in supplier quality management, new product introductions, manufacturing support, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will partner with Engineering, Operations, Procurement, and Manufacturing to ensure supplier compliance, resolve quality issues, and drive process excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead supplier qualification, evaluation, and ongoing performance management.
  • Plan, conduct, and document supplier audits to ensure compliance with ISO 13485 and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage supplier corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), ensuring timely investigation, follow-up, and closure.
  • Support supplier selection, onboarding, classification, and approval activities.
  • Review supplier change notifications and coordinate cross-functional assessments to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and maintain supplier scorecards and performance metrics.
  • Partner with Engineering and Manufacturing to support new product development, product transfers, and production launches.
  • Manage Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation and supplier submissions.
  • Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities and supplier readiness initiatives.
  • Support validation activities for purchased components, including IQ, OQ, and PQ documentation.
  • Collaborate on receiving inspection plans, measurement methods, and acceptance criteria.
  • Perform root cause investigations using structured problem-solving techniques such as 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone Analysis.
  • Assist with Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) affecting suppliers and purchased materials.
  • Develop and maintain quality procedures, work instructions, and related documentation.
  • Participate in internal audits and support external audits, including FDA and ISO inspections.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and lead quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary quality contact for supplier-related issues.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 2–4 years of Quality Engineering or Supplier Quality experience within medical device manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820, and quality management systems.
  • Experience conducting supplier audits and supplier quality assessments.
  • Hands-on experience with CAPA, PPAP, APQP, FMEA, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Experience with validation activities including IQ, OQ, and PQ.
  • Working knowledge of statistical methods including Gage R&R, CpK/PpK, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Familiarity with ISO 14971 risk management principles.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Minitab.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with metrology equipment and inspection techniques.
  • CMM and/or MicroVu programming experience.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean Manufacturing certification.
  • Certified Lead Auditor or formal Lead Auditor training.
  • Project Management certification (PMP or equivalent) is a plus.
  • Experience supporting FDA inspections and third-party regulatory audits.
