Your role and responsibilities
IBM's Global Affairs organization shapes how the world understands IBM. We define and protect IBM's brand, advance the company's reputation, and bring IBM's strategy, innovation, values, and market leadership to life for clients, partners, media, analysts, employees, and investors.
Our work helps IBM earn trust, strengthen brand consideration, influence priority audiences, and create clarity around the company's point of view in the market.
As a Corporate Communications & Brand Strategy Intern, you will work on a project that helps shape IBM's voice, reputation, and presence in modern ways. The internship may span any area of the function, giving you exposure to how communications, brand, reputation, social, and stakeholder engagement come together to advance IBM's business. In addition to your project work, the internship includes learning experiences, networking, social activities, leadership exposure, and mentorship.
Project work could include:
  • Supporting media relations, executive communications, or thought leadership for priority business areas
  • Developing social, community, or influencer strategies to engage key audiences
  • Building communications plans for market moments, events, launches, or executive priorities
  • Conducting audience, analyst, competitor, or market research to inform positioning and messaging
  • Creating briefs, messaging, and storytelling materials that make IBM's business value clear and compelling
  • Supporting internal communications that help IBMers understand company strategy, culture, and impact

This role is for a Summer 2027 internship, expected to begin on Monday, May 24, 2027 and end on Friday, August 13, 2027. Roles are based in Austin, TX. We work in a hybrid environment, and interns are expected to come into the office at least three days per week.
IBM will not be providing Visa sponsorship for these positions now or in the future. Therefore, to be considered for this position, you must have the ability to work without a need for current or future Visa sponsorship.
Required education
High School Diploma/GED
Preferred education
Bachelor's Degree
Required technical and professional expertise
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited University
  • Available for an internship in Summer 2027
  • Rising junior for the 2027-2028 school year
  • Basic knowledge of communications, public relations, brand strategy, social media, journalism, marketing, or a related field
  • Fluent in English; strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Writing sample or a portfolio of writing or work demonstrating success in primary responsibilities for the role

Preferred technical and professional experience
  • Curiosity, problem-solving skills, and the ability to turn research into insights
  • Strong storytelling, writing, editing, journalism, content strategy, or creative communication skills
  • A strategic, data-driven mindset and interest in technology, business, brand, or reputation
