Description:
The Certified Pharmacy Technician Senior - Carousel/Non-Sterile Compounding Lead supports the safe, accurate, and timely distribution and preparation of medications throughout the hospital while serving as a subject matter expert in carousel operations, pharmacy logistics, and non-sterile compounding. In addition to performing advanced pharmacy technician duties, this role provides leadership and operational support by coordinating technician workflows, training and mentoring staff, leading special projects, ensuring regulatory and quality compliance, and troubleshooting pharmacy automation and equipment. Working closely with pharmacists and pharmacy leadership, the Senior Technician promotes patient safety, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement across pharmacy services.
Position Purpose:
The Certified Pharmacy Technician Senior serves as a certified pharmacy technician and expert in med carousel, Logistics, and non-sterile compounding. Working under the supervision of a pharmacist, this role performs standard technician responsibilities and provides leadership, training, and operational support. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a healthcare environment.
What You Will Do:
  • Serve as the primary technician resource for med carousel, Logistics, and non-sterile compounding providing expertise, guidance, and troubleshooting to support pharmacy staff.
  • Train and mentor pharmacy technicians and interns on med carousel and non-sterile compounding best practices.
  • Assist pharmacists in the timely and accurate preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications.
  • Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and troubleshooting related to carousel and non-sterile compounding operations.
  • Assist with implementation of new processes, workflow enhancements, and operational initiatives designed to improve efficiency, quality, and service excellence.
  • Escalate workflow challenges, process concerns, or quality and safety concerns to pharmacy leadership and collaborate on appropriate solutions.
  • Support inventory management activities, including stock rotation, receiving, storage, expiration date monitoring, and medication replenishment.
  • Maintain current knowledge of USP 795 requirements and support compliance.
  • Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, technicians, and interns to support exceptional patient care and operational excellence.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: High school graduation or equivalent
  • Licensure / Certification: Approved Pharmacy Technician Certification. Active registration as a Certified Tech with Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Experience: 1 or more years of experience in hospital pharmacy with expertise in a particular area of pharmacy services (IV room, ADC/Pyxis, Packager, etc).
  • Reports to Pharmacy Supervisor/Manager/Director of Pharmacy; will receive work direction from Patient Care Pharmacist on duty consistent with the Drug Laws in Ohio.
