Mechanical Engineering Technology Instructional Specialist

Position # 26-052

WVU Parkersburgis a Community and Technical College located in Parkersburg, WV along with Jackson County Center in Ripley, WV and Innovation Technology Center in Vienna, WV. We are not a branch of West Virginia University. We are dedicated to teaching and are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission to offer certificates, associate and bachelors degrees.

Responsibilities

  • This appointment will include a 21-credit hour teaching load per semester in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Other college level courses may also be assigned depending on the selected candidates credentials.
  • Teaching assignments may include evening, weekend, hybrid and/or totally on-line instruction.
  • In addition, duties will include academic advising, committee service, program and course-level assessment, program support, effective use of learning management systems, student recruitment/retention and professional development.
  • Use of learning management systems and demonstrated effective use of technology is a condition of continued employment beyond the first year.
  • WVU Parkersburg values creativity, individuality, and innovation, and expects the selected candidate to actively participate in the college community.
  • Develop and teach courses in Mechanical Engineering Technology, including hands-on, core engineering principles, manufacturing processes, energy systems, and technical problem solving.
  • Assist with curriculum development and assessment to align with accreditation standards and workforce needs.
  • Engage in active and experimental learning strategies to enhance student engagement and success.
  • Collaborate with local industries and advisory committees to ensure program relevance and create internship and job placement opportunities.
  • Mentor and advise students on academic progress, career pathways, and professional development.
  • Participate in college service activities, outreach, and recruitment efforts.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and stay current with industry trends and advancements in engineering technology education.

Requirements

  • A masters degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology or a closely related field OR
  • A bachelors degree and 3 years of industry experience.
  • Demonstrated use of advanced technology systems such as learning management systems or similar technologies.
  • Understanding and application of assessment practices is strongly preferred.
  • Successful college-level teaching experience is preferred,as well as prior effective use of technology in instructional delivery, and a willingness to deliver courses in all instructional modalities.
  • Demonstration of teaching effectiveness is part of the on-campus interview.

Required Work Experience

  • Minimum of three years of relevant industry experience in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, or energy-related fields.


Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Proficiency in engineering software applications.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with a student-centered teaching philosophy.
  • Ability to workcollaboratively with faculty, staff, and industry partners.

  • This is an on-site position.
  • Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance and punctuality are expected to ensure performance of the essential function of the job, including scheduled meetings and shifts.
