Coordinates multiple software development work streams through integration and ensures architecture is scalable and extensible, using Micro-Services Architecture concepts - Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), JAX-RS, and REST/JSON. Develops and maintains software applications and Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) pipelines, using DevOps and Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (Cl/CD) tools including Maven, Git/Stash, Jenkins, Nexus, uDeploy, and Docker. Builds and maintains relational databases, using SQL, DB2, and Oracle. Develops event driven transaction processing applications using EAI, ESB, and messaging patterns including ActiveMQ and Tomcat. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participates in architecture design teams.
  • Defines and implements application-level architecture.
  • Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.
  • Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
  • Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
  • Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
  • Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.
  • Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
  • Plans and coordinates complex project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
  • Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
  • Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Mentors junior team members.
  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
  • Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, developing, and building modernized enterprise-grade applications in a Cloud infrastructure environment, focusing on security, scalability, and resilience.

Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, developing, and building modernized enterprise-grade applications in a Cloud infrastructure environment, focusing on security, scalability, and resilience.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") developing, testing, and delivering robust and scalable RESTful API services, using Java and Spring Boot in a Cloud-native microservices environment; developing scripts for automation using Python; developing and maintaining high data throughput ETL pipelines, using SnapLogic and Control-M scheduler; applying Object-Oriented Design (OOD) principles, implementing API versioning with backward compatibility using feature toggles, and enabling secure API communication using OAuth2 and JWT-based authentication; maintaining API documentation using Swagger and OpenAPI specifications; and writing automated test suites in JUnit and TestNG frameworks.
  • DE developing scalable NoSQL data models using DynamoDB; implementing and maintaining Oracle SQL Stored Procedures; enhancing Elasticsearch for new search types and optimizing code and queries to deliver relevant and fast search results; and ensuring error handling with custom exception hierarchies and strengthening system reliability, using design patterns via Java library Resilience4j.
  • DE maintaining and provisioning Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2 instances with auto-scaling groups and load balancers; implementing event-driven architectures using Kafka for producing and consuming real-time events; developing Azure Service Bus queues; developing AWS SQS queues using AWS SDK for Java; and building automated workflows using Webhooks, API Gateway, and AWS Lambda.
  • DE performing DevOps Engineering by building and operating CI/CD pipelines, using Jenkins for deploying microservices across multi-region Cloud environments; deploying Docker containers; implementing Infrastructure as code (IaC) with Terraform and AWS CloudFormation; ensuring system reliability and observability by developing monitoring dashboards, and setting up alerts in AWS CloudWatch and New Relic; and monitoring logs in tools -- Splunk and Sumo Logic.
