Staff Accountant
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio, Hybrid
Department: Finance amp; Accounting
Reports To: Controller
Experience Required: 1–2 Years
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is an entry level role responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization by maintaining accurate financial records, filing sales and use tax returns, preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and assisting with month-end and year-end close activities. This role provides an excellent opportunity for a motivated accounting professional to develop technical accounting skills while contributing to the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger.
  • File monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual sales and use tax.
  • Perform monthly bank, balance sheet, and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed assets and prepaid expense schedules.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities as needed.
  • Review financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Prepare financial reports, schedules, and supporting analyses for management.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests by gathering documentation and supporting schedules.
  • Monitor and investigate accounting discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Maintain organized accounting records and documentation.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and internal controls.
Qualifications
Education
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
Experience
  • 1–2 years of accounting experience
  • Internship experience may be considered toward the experience requirement.
Skills amp; Knowledge
  • Understanding of accounting principles and GAAP.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and basic financial analysis.
  • Experience with ERP or accounting systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar).
