The Chicago Fire Football Club (Chicago Fire FC) is an American professional soccer club that competes in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top U.S. domestic league. Founded on October 8, 1997, on the 126th anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire, the Club began play in 1998 as one of the League's first expansion franchises. The Fire have won six major domestic titles, including the 1998 MLS Cup; the 1998, 2000, 2003, and 2006 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cups; as well as the 2003 MLS Supporters' Shield.
The Club recently announced plans to build a $750M+ privately financed downtown stadium in Chicago in 2028. Position Overview:
Chicago Fire Football Club is seeking a dedicated Data Scientist Intern to join our team! The Data Scientist Intern will report into the Director, Football Analytics. Our internship program provides the opportunity to work on meaningful football initiatives that will improve the capabilities of the Football Analytics department. The data analyst intern will be responsible for working across varied datasets to develop metrics, predictive models, and agentic tooling to support football operations stakeholders. The data scientist intern will get insight and experience into a wide array of different processes throughout the club.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Partner with analytics department colleagues to build models and tools to inform football operations decision-making
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of areas of stakeholder support, potentially including recruitment and scouting, performance, and internal analysis
  • Present and communicate models and tools to appropriate stakeholders
  • Ensure all data processes are efficient, reliable and in line with club standards and time frames
  • Develop strong working relationships across the multi-disciplinary team

Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in a quantitative Bachelor's or Master's program in Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, Economics, or a related field
  • Experience with a scientific computing language (eg. R, Python)
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, machine learning and/or predictive modeling
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and an ability to collaborate with non-technical audiences
  • An ability to pick up new skills and knowledge quickly and effectively, from mentors and teammates
  • An understanding of football and desire to learn about football analytics

Compensation:
  • This role offers an hourly rate of $16.60
  • This role is classified as Part-time, non-exempt
