Summer Intern, Engineering

The Engineering Summer Intern supports Elevateโ€™s programs by assisting one or more experienced engineers and various program teams across the organization as needed. The Engineering Summer Intern learns technical and engineering skills, shadows energy assessments, and performs tasks that support larger projects while experiencing the day-to-day workings of energy engineering. The position collaborates closely with other Elevate staff on projects related to improving building performance, advancing energy efficiency, and consulting on sustainability measures. Additional projects involve electrification, solar, certifications, energy efficiency assessments and reporting, and the development of engineering tools.


The Engineering Summer Intern reports to the Manager, Engineering. This position is based in Chicago, Illinois and is currently hybrid remote.


Responsibilities

  • Perform program administrative tasks such as documenting project data in Salesforce customer relations management (CRM).
  • Review/QAQC documents and reports.
  • Collaborate on improving energy program design and program delivery processes.
  • Perform energy data analysis.
  • Assist in the development of engineering tools and SOPs.
  • Shadow/assist experienced engineers before, during, and after on-site energy assessments.
  • Perform assignments while acting independently.
  • Participate in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in areas of company interest.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Skills

  • In pursuit of an undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches and basic engineering theory
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate with all management levels
  • Persistence and creativity in finding specific documents and information, often independently
  • Strong research skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to perform calculations in Microsoft Excel
  • Valid driverโ€™s license and personal motorized vehicle transportation is a plus but not required


Terms of Service

Summer internships at Elevate are paid positions, for current college or graduate students, or recent college graduates. The usual time commitment is for this summer internship is 8-10 months, 20-25 hours/week. The Engineering Summer Intern is paid $20/hour. The Engineering Summer Intern will work remotely but may be required to attend on-site fieldwork.
