Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Radiology Manager, the Radiologic Technologist

is responsible for detecting patient abnormalities by completing various imaging studies and presenting images for diagnosis.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Operates and maintains radiology equipment.
  • Ensures proper operations of equipment by completing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, requesting repairs, etc.
  • Develops images, observes results, determines any necessary adjustments to ensure accurate results, retakes images, and forwards completed tests to radiologist for interpretation.
  • Performs radiographic x-rays and assists Radiologists with fluoroscopy and other special procedures.
  • Uses the c-arm and portable equipment in a safe, effective manner, without supervision, and without doing harm to the patient.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and responsibility for the effective and safe use of all equipment.
  • Practices sterile techniques to prevent contamination.
  • Maintains x-ray equipment to include periodic cleaning and general preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies used in each specialty area of the department.
  • Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize the amount of radiation to patients and staff.
  • Follows as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) rule in all areas of radiology.
  • Demonstrates ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing the physician's orders.
  • Identifies each patient, reviews each patient's requisition for consistency of exam ordered with clinical diagnosis and demographic information.
  • Demonstrates ability to complete patient preparation for imaging.
  • Greets patients, explains imaging procedures and equipment, and answers any initial inquiries.
  • Documents patient services by completing record charting.
  • Uses Meditech system to maintain patient records and charges.
  • Records pertinent patient information on all requests.
  • Maintains stock and supplies and notifies the appropriate supervisor when stock is low.
  • Ensures adequate inventory of supplies and orders more to ensure readiness.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly department and work area.
  • Assists with the management of the work floor to ensure the efficient completion of work assignments in the absence of a co-worker or supervisor.
  • Transports patients
    and performs clerical duties.
  • Assists the Radiologist with their duties.
  • Performs other job-related duties as requested.



JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Qualification Requirements:

  • Successful completion of Radiologic Technology Training.
  • Current certification as a Registered Radiologic Technologist RT(R).
  • Current BLS certification. (Must obtain within 90 days of hire).

Experience:

  • Previous experience in Radiology is preferred but not required.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages preferred.
