Job Overview

The Lead Business Insights Developer harnesses the power of data and analytical methods to tell a compelling story that transforms insight into action for stakeholders. They lead a segment of work within an agile business insights team, deploying comprehensive BI products that drive strategic decision-making. They maintain direct relationships with key business stakeholders and operate with a strong consultative mindset—consistently striving to anticipate business needs and deliver innovative solutions.

What You Will Do

  • Work with BI Leadership and stakeholders to understand business objectives, map scope of work, and lead junior colleagues in delivering technical outcomes.
  • Serve as a point of contact for stakeholders within the scope of assigned projects; respond to inquiries promptly and escalate when needed.
  • Apply advanced statistical methods to uncover patterns and insights, using techniques ranging from basic aggregation to complex statistical analysis.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers on data collection, storage, and retrieval processes; partner with Data Governance to identify data issues and propose cleansing or enhancement solutions.
  • Lead projects using analytical best practices, ensuring data sources are connected with quality and reliability
  • Leverage interactive dashboarding and visualization tools to translate data into compelling insights with a strong focus on user experience.
  • Lead validation, QA testing, and peer review processes to ensure data accuracy and integrity in reporting.
  • Provide post-implementation support, including defect resolution and hands-on troubleshooting of reports in the field.
  • Manage Power BI administration activities such as capacity planning, data connection oversight, and user/group access provisioning.
  • Drive continuous improvement through performance optimization, automation, and expanded functionality.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities. 
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

Skills You Will Need

Group Work Leadership: Ability to lead portions of pod iteratives; can clearly communicate priorities and play an effective technical support role for junior colleagues. 

Consultive Mindset: Go beyond just providing analytics and actively engage stakeholders to understand their challenges and goals. Ability to have a business-first viewpoint when developing solutions.

Technical Acumen: Knowledge of data pipelines, BI Tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.), advanced report programming, and technical queries (SQL, R, Python, etc.).

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Outstanding analytical skills with attention to detail, strong documentation, organization, time management, and problem-solving abilities. 

Communication: Maintaining timely communication with management and stakeholders on project progress, issues, and concerns. Developing effective communication plans tailored to diverse audiences.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of work experience analyzing data and building comprehensive dashboards in a retail enterprise setting.   
  • Familiarity with project management and collaboration tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
  • An ongoing learner who seeks out emerging technology and can influence others to think innovatively. 
  • Gets energized by fast-paced environments and capable of supporting multiple projects - can identify primary and secondary objectives, prioritize time, and communicate timelines to team members. 
  • Highly autonomous and comfortable working in an ambiguous, continually changing environment. 
  • Passionate about building great BI products and solving customer and business problems. 
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
