Job description

Job Title: Facilities Assistant

Department: Business - Operations - Facilities

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Senior Facilities Manager

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 10 am - 6 pm (some weekends, as needed)

Compensation: $55,577 - $58,356/year

Position Overview: The Facilities Assistant coordinates and participates in managing the full range of maintenance, operation, and security activities related to the buildings and grounds owned by the Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School. In collaboration with the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Assistant will maintain campus upkeep and safety with input from the school's committees and building experts by inspecting and coordinating maintenance related to the buildings, grounds, and equipment/furniture.

You will drive Yu Ying's mission, vision and team's success by:

  • The Facilities Assistant will coordinate and collaborate with all relevant third party vendor contacts such as; landscaping, pest control services, and alarm/safety communication.
  • Provide daily oversight of the janitorial, subcontracted team to ensure tasks/projects are completed in a timely manner.
  • Monitor the facilities repair request process to address reported concerns timely and accurately.
  • Identify and report issues that could potentially become costly in an effort to develop a continuous preventative maintenance plan.
  • Troubleshoot and repair routine issues that include facilities maintenance, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, wall repairs, painting, and landscaping.
  • Serve as one of the points of contact for security issues, which includes communicating and coordinating with the Facilities Manager and Director of Operations regarding the maintenance of the system.
  • Provide a safe environment for the Yu Ying community, including the removal of snow from entrances, walkways, sidewalks and parking lot
  • Serve as a member of the safety team to ensure the campus has the appropriate signage, barriers, fencing and participate in drills, incidents, direct traffic to identify opportunities for improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Grounds Maintenance
    • Daily assessment of chiller, boilers, air handle unit (AHU) and air make-up to ensure all are operating properly.
    • Ensure all items are cleared from classrooms following aftercare programming
      1. Water bottles, lunch boxes, sweaters, etc.
    • Police grounds, playgrounds and nature center, apply Poison Ivy killer and weeds.
    • Close and lock all gates and windows daily in the MPR.

Set Up

    • Manage meeting and event setup.

Work Orders

    • Perform work orders request.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 or more years of experience in the facilities maintenance field..
  • Strong written and verbal communication, using basic email and phone functions.
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in Spanish and/or fluency in Mandarin Chinese
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing and carpentry
  • Previous experience with HVAC
  • Previous experience with school facilities or building maintenance.
  • Experience using electronic databases and computer software.
  • Comfortable driving at minimum a 10 ft. box truck.
