Internship Playwright information

What does an internship playwright do?

An Internship Playwright is typically a student or early-career writer who works with a theater company or organization to gain experience in writing plays and scripts. They may assist in developing new works, participate in workshops, receive feedback from experienced playwrights, and sometimes see their work produced in readings or performances. The internship is designed to provide mentorship, industry exposure, and practical experience in the craft and business of playwriting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship playwright?

To thrive as an Internship Playwright, you need strong creative writing abilities, an understanding of dramatic structure, and a background in theater or literature—often supported by relevant coursework or experience. Familiarity with script formatting software like Final Draft and knowledge of theater production processes are valuable assets. Collaboration, openness to feedback, and effective communication help aspiring playwrights build relationships and refine their work. These skills are crucial for developing compelling scripts and succeeding in a collaborative, feedback-driven theatrical environment.

What types of projects and collaborations can I expect during an internship as a playwright?

As an intern Playwright, you will typically work on developing original scripts, adapting existing works, or contributing to collaborative writing projects for stage productions. You'll likely participate in table reads, workshops, and feedback sessions with directors, actors, and other writers, gaining hands-on experience in refining your work based on constructive criticism. This role often involves close collaboration with the creative team, offering valuable insights into the entire theatrical production process. Interns may also assist with research, script formatting, and administrative tasks, providing a comprehensive understanding of both the creative and practical aspects of playwriting.

Position Summary

Xpansiv is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Quality Assurance Intern to support the development and expansion of the automated testing framework for the Xpansiv Power platform. Reporting to a Product Manager and working closely with the Head of QA, the broader QA team, and Engineering, the intern will help improve software quality, test coverage, and release reliability across a complex energy market operations platform.

The intern will contribute to ongoing automation initiatives, help establish effective practices for managing non-production test data and test assets, and develop automated tests that validate backend APIs and web user interface functionality. This internship offers hands-on experience with quality engineering, automation frameworks, cross-functional software delivery, and business-critical technology used in energy markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Management, QA, and Engineering teams to support the design and implementation of automated testing solutions.

  • Develop, maintain, and improve automated test scripts for web user interfaces and backend APIs.

  • Help define and implement processes for managing non-production test data, test accounts, test assets, and testing environments.

  • Create, execute, and maintain automated functional, integration, and regression test suites.

  • Review test results, identify and document defects, and support troubleshooting and defect-resolution efforts.

  • Assist with validating new features, bug fixes, and software releases against requirements and acceptance criteria.

  • Contribute to documentation covering testing approaches, standards, frameworks, test cases, and test data management practices.

  • Work with existing automation tools and frameworks while helping expand test coverage across key platform workflows.

  • Participate in team ceremonies, planning discussions, test reviews, and release-readiness activities.

  • Share findings, risks, and recommendations clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • Coursework, academic projects, or practical experience using a programming language such as Python, JavaScript, C#, Java, or a similar language.

  • Foundational understanding of the software development lifecycle and software testing concepts.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently, seek guidance when needed, and collaborate effectively in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Interest in test automation, APIs, web applications, quality engineering, and reliable software delivery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to automated testing tools or frameworks such as Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, Rest Assured, or similar technologies.

  • Familiarity with API testing tools such as Postman or SoapUI.

  • Experience with source control tools such as Git.

  • Basic understanding of web technologies, REST APIs, databases, microservices, or continuous integration and delivery pipelines.

  • Experience contributing to a team-based academic, internship, or software development project.

  • Interest in energy markets, sustainability, regulated technology platforms, or data-intensive applications.

What Success Looks Like

  • Automated test coverage is expanded across priority Xpansiv Power workflows.

  • Test scripts are reliable, maintainable, clearly documented, and aligned with team standards.

  • Non-production test data and test assets are organized and managed through consistent, repeatable practices.

  • Defects and quality risks are identified early, documented clearly, and communicated promptly.

  • Product, QA, and Engineering partners receive dependable support during feature validation and release preparation.

Compensation:
The anticipated hourly pay range for this internship is $20-$25 per hour for undergraduate students and $30-$35 per hour for graduatelevel students, based on a goodfaith estimate.
