Job Description

The Park Ranger Supervisor is responsible for overseeing a team of Park Rangers and Recreation Technician(s) engaged in the day to day operations of Lynches River County Park.

Essential Functions:

  • Assigns daily duties, develops weekly work schedules, coordinates on-the-job training, documents and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Assists in developing and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate park operations reports, such as time and attendance reports and incident reports.
  • Patrols the park to enforce rules and regulations, and to safeguard and preserve park facilities.
  • Performs regular park walk-throughs to identify areas needing maintenance or repairs and implements measures to correct or control environmental hazards or conditions.
  • Conducts environmental inventory of park to detect fire hazards and plant diseases, insect infestations.
  • Assists with resource stewardship efforts, including citizen science programs, maintenance of wildlife habitat structures, invasive species identification and control, species inventories and counts, wildlife conflict issues, etc.
  • Tracks rental facilities for all events; checks-in customers and overnight guests; remains on property to attend to customer needs as needed during rentals; secures buildings and park upon completion of events.
  • Establishes and maintain relationships with community partners, recreational advisory councils and the general public.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Backup for Parks Superintendent.
  • Evaluates equipment, supplies, and materials inventory.
  • Performs custodial, landscaping, and housekeeping activities of all park facilities to ensure the attractiveness, cleanliness, and safety of the park to meet and exceed established standards.
  • Performs basic arithmetic in collecting fees, making change, and reconciling funds; completes all related documentation; secure funds daily.

Qualifications: Education and Work Experience

  • Requires a high school diploma, or equivalent, and three years' general maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of canoeing/kayaking is desired.
  • Must possess a valid S.C. driver’s license.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, First Aid and CPR certification upon hire.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, Certified Pool Operator certification within six months of start of employment.
  • Must be able to operate a variety of small and large engine equipment: various hand and power tools, tractor, backhoe, etc.
