Description

Sertoma Center, Inc. is currently seeking Full-Time Skills Trainers for our Project Search Internship Program located in a hospital setting. Pay starts at $16.50 per hour. This full-time position is, Monday through Friday, 7:30am until 3:30pm or Monday thru Friday 8:00am until 4:00pm. We also currently offer a $1,000  sign-on bonus.

Skills Trainer Job Summary:

The Skills Trainer is responsible for the direct care and supervision of the people we serve within our population. As a skills trainer, you will provide constant support through positivity and encouragement while overseeing them at their jobsite to ensure they are performing their assigned duties to the best of their ability.


Skills Trainer Job Responsibilities:

Performs travel training with interns if using city, county, or family transportation

Participates in basic skills training

Reports to Instructor Coordinator when late or absent

Works with Instructor Coordinator to assess intern skills and gather baseline data

Works with department managers, fellow skills trainers to develop internship sites, task list, and plan for necessary modifications       for competitive jobs

Works with managers and co-workers to educate on disability awareness

Reinforces employability skills and assists interns to understand and interpret work culture

Assists in training intern interview process

Learn the internship job duties and simplify any needed modifications necessary to the successful completion of the department

Attends job orientation with the intern and clarifies information as needed

Teach the essential tasks/duties of the job to the intern and provide individual support when and if needed

Build department natural support to reduce the amount of time spent with each intern as core skills are developed

Teach safe practices according to the work environment

Model appropriate workplace behavior

Works with managers to determine new skills as interns gain confidence and competencies

Meets with manager and peer mentors to discuss issues and solve problems

Assesses intern progress and provides feedback to the interns and team members

Provide new internship ideas to the team

Handles confidential information

Requirements

Skills Trainer Employment Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent

Minimum of 1 year of professional work experience

At least 6 months of prior experience of working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is required

Must be able to perform assigned duties in a tobacco-free work environment 

3 years clean driving history with a valid Tennessee driver's license

Ability to pass two drug screens
