Job description

Position Summary: UBT is seeking intelligent, driven, service-oriented interns interested in learning various aspects of the 529 College Savings industry from the ground up and can provide excellent customer service to prospects, clients, and advisors. This is an excellent career building opportunity that can help you learn foundational skills that translate well into many different financial career paths. It will provide you with a strong foundation in customer service, basic investments, taxes, banking software, and the various college savings programs and vehicles.
Interns that demonstrate strong performance and potential may be offered a full-time Customer Service, Operational or Internal Field Representative position upon their graduation.
This is a long-term internship opportunity. The ideal candidate is able to work at least 2-4 semesters with Union Bank and has the ability to work a minimum of 20 hours/week during our core business hours of 7:00 AM- 6:00 PM, Mon-Fri.
Essential Functions:
  • Assist with investors' phone inquiries and educate them regarding investment options, market performance, account information, and 529 tax and estate planning rules and regulations as outlined by IRS and State law.
  • Accurately receive and process all transactions on an account in a timely manner, including contributions, withdrawals, and investment changes, while following Federal and State laws pertaining to 529 Plans, including tax benefits and penalties.
  • Accurately and clearly convey Federal and State tax laws pertaining to all seven of our 529 Plans regarding possible tax deductions and credits, tax penalties for non-qualified withdrawals, Federal exceptions, gift tax and accelerated gifting, and rollovers into Roth IRAs.
  • Participate in ongoing product knowledge and customer service training to enhance skills, stay current on 529 updates and processing procedures, and provide the best possible service to our investors.
  • Understand, identify, and evaluate potential risks to client accounts and take necessary steps to ensure the account is protected against fraud, theft, and security breaches.
  • Prioritize and manage daily tasks, workflows, and projects to ensure regular progress and timely completion, and regularly report progress and status to leadership.
  • Understand and adhere to all bank policies, laws, and regulations applicable to their role. Complete compliance training and follow internal processes and controls as required.
  • Report all compliance issues, violations of law or regulations in accordance with the steps defined in bank policies.
  • Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Finance preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and in working with other financial software.
