NATURE OF WORK: Dispenses medications and related supplies using accepted pharmaceutical techniques to fill written and oral prescriptions issued by physicians and other qualified prescribers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy AND completion of a Pharmacy internship.

Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of West Virginia.

  • Knowledge of the principles of specialized science directly related to pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of chemical, biological, and comparative therapeutic properties of a wide range of drugs.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws regarding regulation of pharmacy practices.
  • Skill in the compounding and manufacturing of drugs.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: In-Doors 98% of the time; outdoors 2% of the time. Work is performed mainly within LPCC and its main site.

    WORK PACE: Pace determined by the need of client(s).

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Dispenses medications following prescriptions issued by an authorized medical practitioner.
  • Performs or oversees the performance of packaging, labeling, measuring, compounding, storing, charging, and recording medications used in patient care.
  • Reviews prescriptions for appropriateness of therapy to determine ingredients needed and to ensure correct dosage.
  • Inventories, orders, and maintains supply of drugs, chemicals, and other pharmaceutical stock.
  • Advises patients and care providers of potential drug interactions, possible side effects, storage information, and instructions on how to use medications.
  • Presents drug lectures to medical nursing staff, physicians, and other groups on matters pertaining to pharmacy.
  • Prepares sterile products for patient administration; determines proper preparation, packaging, sterilization, storage, and stability requirements of the product.
  • Assists clinicians in establishing the proper protocols, storage, distribution, and administration procedures for investigational drugs.
  • Trains and supervises Pharmacy Assistants as assigned.
  • Develops or participates in clinical pharmaceutical research.
  • Serves as a preceptor for pharmacy interns.
  • OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
