Job Summary
The Staff Accountant supports the Financial Reporting and General Accounting teams by performing routine accounting activities, preparing financial information, and assisting with monthly close and reporting processes. This entry-level accounting role is responsible for completing daily, weekly, and monthly accounting tasks, maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, and supporting audits and special projects. The position contributes to the company's financial integrity by ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and financial information is reliable, timely, and compliant with established accounting standards and internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly accounting processes, including preparing and recording journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure transactions are properly classified within the general ledger.
  • Prepare account reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and determine appropriate corrective actions when needed.
  • Research account fluctuations and variances to identify expected activity versus potential errors requiring resolution.
  • Prepare month-end schedules and supporting documentation for financial reporting activities.
  • Assist with audit requests by gathering and preparing supporting documentation and schedules.
  • Learn and effectively utilize the company's general ledger system and related financial reporting tools.
  • Communicate with associates across the organization to obtain, verify, and share information related to areas of responsibility.
  • Provide support for ad hoc projects, reporting requests, and special assignments as directed by management.
  • Cross-train and provide backup support for additional financial reporting and general accounting functions.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve knowledge, efficiency, and accounting processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 1-3 years of accounting, finance, or related experience.
  • Basic understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of journal entries, debits and credits, and general ledger concepts.
  • Understanding of financial statement components, including assets, liabilities, equity, revenue, and expense accounts.
  • Experience or familiarity with account reconciliation processes.
  • Ability to analyze financial data, research issues, and identify appropriate resolutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn new processes, systems, and accounting concepts.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Internship or prior experience in accounting, financial reporting, public accounting, or a related field.
  • Experience working with general ledger and financial reporting systems.
  • Exposure to month-end close processes and account reconciliations.
  • Familiarity with audit support activities.
  • Experience working in a corporate accounting environment.
