Role Summary:
The Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for commissioning and troubleshooting engines, engine tuning, and upgrades for our clients' projects following the installation of upgraded engine components. This role requires a strong technical aptitude and expertise in engines, including mechanical, electrical, and control systems. The Commissioning Engineer will validate installed equipment, provide technical support to ensure the engine is ready for start-up, execute startup and performance tests, diagnose issues and ensure the engine meets project performance goals.
This role requires effective communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to work independently and adapt to changing project requirements. The Commissioning Engineer will represent the company professionally with clients and stakeholders and will require frequent travel to client sites. Travel during peak seasons can be in range of 50-75% travel.
Responsibilities:
  • Must be familiar with the design and operations of reciprocating compressors and internal combustion engines, their sub-assemblies and supporting infrastructure.
  • Must be able to operate exhaust stack emissions monitoring equipment and perform data analysis using Microsoft Excel and similar software packages.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers during project execution and willingness to support cross-functional teams.
  • Must possess excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Must possess a strong desire to learn, investigate, and provide technical solutions to upgrade engine equipment for emissions improvement.
  • Must be humble, willing to accept responsibility, and work to find solutions to complex technical issues.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education and Experience: The ideal candidate will have an Engineering Degree, Trade School Training or be a graduate of a Technical School with the combined in-depth technical aptitude on engines and engine tuning. Relevant certifications or training in commissioning or engine tuning or ignition control systems will be considered a plus.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong technical expertise in engines, engine tuning, and upgrades, including understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems. Familiarity with different types of engines and their performance characteristics, as well as experience with tuning and calibrating engines for optimal performance. 7+ years of technical field or commissioning experience required.
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues related to engines, engine tuning, and upgrades. Proficient in using diagnostic tools, software, and equipment to troubleshoot and repair engine systems. Analytical mindset to identify root causes of issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Commissioning Experience: Prior experience in commissioning engines or other mechanical systems is highly desirable. Familiarity with commissioning procedures, protocols, and documentation. 7+ years of technical field or commissioning experience required.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with clients, team members, and other stakeholders. Ability to prepare and present technical reports and documentation.
  • Safety Awareness: Understanding of safety regulations and protocols related to commissioning and working with engines. Ability to follow safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Team Player: Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Willingness to support team members and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Ability to work in fast-paced environments and adapt to changing project requirements and priorities. Willingness to travel to client sites as needed for commissioning activities.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to identify and resolve technical issues and challenges that may arise during commissioning activities.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail to ensure accurate and precise commissioning and calibration of engines and engine systems.
  • Professionalism: Professional demeanor with a customer service-oriented approach. Ability to represent the company in a professional manner with clients and stakeholders.
  • Team Player: Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Willingness to support team members and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Valid Driver's License: Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to travel to client sites as needed.
  • Candidate must pass background check and DISA drug screen.
  • Candidate must be physically able to work in field environments for 12-hour shifts for multiple day stretches.
  • Preferred location would be Houston to be close to Engineering Center of Excellence, but other locations will be considered for highly experienced candidates.
