Essential Job Duties
The Radiation Oncology Department provides advanced oncological support to a varied patient population across the hospital campus, including small, large, and exotic species. This position requires advanced veterinary medical knowledge, strong time-management skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, teaching-focused clinical environment.
The position collaborates closely with specialty services, clinicians, staff, and students to coordinate and deliver high-quality anesthetic and service specific patient care needs. Responsibilities include comprehensive patient assessment, administration of complex anesthetic and medical treatments, continuous monitoring during diagnostic procedures, post-procedural recovery, and strict adherence to infectious disease and safety protocols. This role also supports hospital operations through documentation, workflow coordination, and the training and mentoring of learners and new staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Advanced Patient Care & Anesthesia Support
Provide comprehensive anesthetic and peri-anesthetic care, including pre-anesthetic assessments, high-risk drug calculations, advanced monitoring, life-saving interventions, pain management, and recovery for small, large, and exotic species.

Monitoring, Equipment & Technical Proficiency
Operate, interpret, and maintain advanced anesthetic and physiologic monitoring equipment and specialized patient care devices to ensure patient safety during diagnostic, and imaging procedures.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Coordinate care and communicate effectively with specialty services, clinicians, staff, and students across multiple hospital service areas to support complex cases..

Education, Training & Mentorship
Orient, teach, and coach new staff, students, interns, and residents on anesthetic procedures, hospital policies, and patient care standards in a teaching-hospital environment.

Documentation, Safety & Compliance
Accurately document patient care and treatments within hospital information systems while maintaining a clean, safe work environment and adhering to infectious disease protocols, OSHA, EHS, and radiation safety standards. Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require additional Training, Certifications, or Licensure.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a veterinary technician in a clinical setting; preferably at a teaching hospital.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operating and interpreting advanced anesthetic and physiologic monitoring equipment and supporting diagnostic or imaging procedures.
  • Experience training, mentoring, or instructing veterinary students, interns, residents, or veterinary staff in a clinical setting.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary veterinary teams while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment and maintaining accurate electronic medical records.
Required License or Certification
  • Licensed/Registered/Certified by any state
  • Graduation from an AVMA fully accredited two- or four-year Veterinary Technician program
