At HDR, our employee-owners are fully engaged in creating a welcoming environment where each of us is valued and respected, a place where everyone is empowered to bring their authentic selves and novel ideas to work every day. As we foster a culture of inclusion throughout our company and within our communities, we constantly ask ourselves: What is our impact on the world?
Watch Our Story:' https://www.hdrinc.com/our-story'
Each and every role throughout our organization makes a difference in our ability to change the world for the better. Read further to learn how you could help make great things possible not only in your community, but around the world.
We believe electricity powers modern life. As part of our Power sector, you'll help shape how electricity is generated, transmitted and delivered as global energy demands grow. From massive data centers to modernizing transmission systems, our industry-recognized engineers and scientists have been at the forefront of grid transformation for more than a century. You'll work side-by-side with these experts and contribute to reliable, resilient and sustainable power systems, helping communities thrive and industries expand. This isn't just a job, it's a chance to drive infrastructure forward, power innovation and leave your mark on our energy future.
In the role of Transmission EIT/Designer, you will be responsible for:
• Conducting engineering analyses and developing overhead and underground transmission line design solutions, including preparing and reviewing project deliverables such as PLS-CADD models, engineering calculation packages, engineering drawings, cost estimates, technical specifications, and construction work packages.
• Performing transmission line engineering calculations and studies requiring the application of established engineering principles and judgment, including structure loading analysis, conductor sag/tension calculations, clearance evaluations, line re-rates, foundation design, and material selection.
• Developing and validating transmission line designs in compliance with applicable industry codes and standards, including NESC, ASCE, IEEE, utility design standards, and project-specific requirements, while identifying and resolving technical design issues.
• Independently executing portions of transmission line projects with moderate complexity, including routing evaluations, structure spotting, line profile development, and design optimization, while supporting senior engineers on large or complex capital projects.
• Providing technical guidance and design direction to Designers, BIM Specialists, and less-experienced team members, including reviewing design deliverables for technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
• Coordinating with multidisciplinary project teams, including civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, survey, and project management personnel, to support successful project planning, design, permitting, and execution.
• Supporting project engineering activities, including scope development, schedule and budget tracking, technical proposal preparation, client coordination, and responding to requests for information during design and construction.
• Participating in field investigations, constructability reviews, site visits, and construction support activities, including evaluating field conditions, resolving technical challenges, and providing engineering recommendations during project execution.
• Applying engineering judgment to evaluate alternatives, identify risks, and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions that improve reliability, safety, constructability, and overall project performance.
• Performing other transmission line engineering-related duties as assigned in support of project and business objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
• Engineer In Training (EIT) Certificate. Candidates without their EIT will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
• Successful completion of the Professional Engineering license exam.
• Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software. (examples include PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, MFAD, LPile, and AutoCAD)
• Knowledge of industry codes and standards (NESC, ASCE, IEEE).
• Internship or coursework related to power transmission systems.
• Local candidates preferred.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture
