Position Overview:
Responsible for designing, optimizing, and overseeing specific chemical processes in the production of materials and chemicals for the HPDU program at NOG-J.  This role ensures that operations are efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with safety and environmental regulations. The role will collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve process efficiency and product quality while minimizing costs and environmental impact.

On-site in Jonesborough, Tennessee

 

Your Day to Day as a HPDU Engineer:

  • Provides engineering coverage for chemical processes, equipment, and systems for the production of chemicals, materials, or specialty products.
  • Conducts feasibility studies and simulations to evaluate new processes or modifications to existing processes.
  • Analyzes existing chemical processes to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Optimizes process parameters to achieve cost-effective production while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Ensures compliance with safety standards and regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and industry-specific guidelines.
  • Conducts risk assessments and safety audits of processes to identify hazards and implement appropriate safety measures.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, maintenance, and R&D, to implement new processes and improvements.
  • Manages projects from concept through implementation, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets while meeting project objectives.
  • Collects and analyzes process data to monitor performance and identify trends or areas for improvement.
  • Prepares reports and documentation on process performance, improvements, and compliance status for management review.
  • Provides technical support and troubleshooting for operational issues related to chemical processes.
  • Works closely with operators and maintenance personnel to identify and resolve process-related problems in real-time.
  • Promotes a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for innovation and efficiency in chemical processing.
  • Participates in and lead initiatives focused on Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Develops training materials and provide training to employees on chemical processes, safety procedures, and best practices.
  • Mentors junior engineers and interns, fostering their professional growth and development.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field; master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in chemical processing, engineering, or related fields, preferably within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical engineering principles, process design, and optimization techniques.
  • Experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE)) are a plus.

Pay: $76,000 - $119,000

The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $76,000 and $119,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
