Diesel Mechanic
Hourly Rate: $26 - $30+ / Hour
Type: Contract to Full-Time Hire
Location: St. Rose, LA 70087 and Surrounding Areas
Hours: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Overtime as Needed
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines and related mechanical systems on marine vessels. This role supports the safe and reliable operation of boats, barges, tugboats, and offshore vessels by ensuring all propulsion and auxiliary systems perform at peak efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul marine diesel engines and related systems
  • Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, valve adjustments, and cooling system service
  • Repair and maintain fuel systems, air systems, exhaust systems, and lubrication systems
  • Inspect and service gearboxes, transmissions, shafts, and propulsion systems
  • Test engines and mechanical components to ensure proper operation
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, service bulletins, and schematics
  • Perform emergency and corrective repairs to minimize vessel downtime
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
  • Follow all marine safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
  • Work closely with vessel crews, supervisors, and inspectors as needed

Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably in a marine or maritime environment
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems is a plus
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical failures independently
  • Familiarity with marine safety regulations and best practices
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, engine rooms, and varying weather conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
