Job description

The Badlands Outdoor Park Services role is responsible for maintaining standards of safety throughout Badlands Off Road Park. Tasks include staffing checkpoints into the park, enforcing park rules, hands-on trail maintenance, and vehicle recovery. The ideal candidate is dependable, observant, professional, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Badlands operates in the tourism industry. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are our busiest days! Normal days off will be during the week. Working weekends and most Holidays is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Offer exceptional customer service at all times.
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the park to promote safety and customer compliance.
  • Enforce park rules, policies, and regulations.
  • Enforce applicable Indiana State laws while on park property.
  • Conduct routine and random patrols of park grounds, trails, campsites, and facilities.
  • Respond promptly to incidents, accidents, disturbances, and emergencies.
  • Provide security patrol during operational and non-operational hours.
  • Document incidents, rule violations, and accidents in detailed written reports.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement or emergency services when necessary
  • Provide professional customer service while addressing violations or safety concerns.
  • Assist guests with general park information and directions.
  • Assist with off-road vehicle recoveries, including towing and recovering stuck vehicles.
  • Operate recovery equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform routine trail inspections to identify safety hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Clear brush, debris, and obstructions from trails.
  • Install, repair, and maintain trail signage and boundary markers.
  • Report major trail damage or safety concerns to management.
  • Helps with set up and tear down of events as needed.

Required Competencies and Skills:

  • Passion for off-roading is a plus!
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
  • Ability / experience operating trucks, UTVs, recovery equipment, and towing equipment in an off-road environment. 
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and power equipment for trail maintenance.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and remain calm during stressful situations.
  • Endurance to work in undesirable weather including high winds, cold and hot temps, and rain.
  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to write clear and accurate reports.
  • Great interpersonal skills with an upbeat team-player attitude.
  • Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods, bend, reach, lift arms, and speak loudly. Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy weight.
  • Extremely flexible schedule to accommodate long hours on weekends, holidays, and some evenings.
  • Previous experience in park operations, or off-road recovery preferred.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification is a plus.
  • Bilingual (Spanish & English) is a plus.
