Internship Nmr Spectroscopy information

What types of projects or experiments can interns expect to work on during an NMR spectroscopy internship?

As an NMR spectroscopy intern, you will typically assist with routine sample preparation, running NMR experiments, and analyzing spectral data under the supervision of experienced researchers. Interns often work on small-scale research projects that may involve determining molecular structures, studying chemical reactions, or helping to optimize experimental protocols. You’ll also collaborate closely with chemists, biochemists, or materials scientists, gaining hands-on experience with advanced instrumentation and exposure to real-world laboratory workflows. This role offers valuable opportunities to develop technical skills and contribute meaningfully to ongoing research.

What is an Internship in NMR Spectroscopy?

An Internship in NMR Spectroscopy is a temporary, practical training position where students or recent graduates gain hands-on experience working with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instruments and techniques. Interns typically assist with preparing samples, running NMR experiments, analyzing spectral data, and supporting research projects. This role helps develop technical skills, deepen understanding of molecular structure analysis, and prepares interns for advanced studies or careers in chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields.

What is the difference between Internship Nmr Spectroscopy vs Laboratory Technician?

AspectInternship Nmr SpectroscopyLaboratory Technician
Required CredentialsTypically pursuing or recent graduate in chemistry or related fieldAssociate's or bachelor's degree in science or related field
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, academic institutions, or industry R&D departmentsHospitals, clinical labs, or industrial laboratories
Employer & Industry UsageResearch-focused roles in academia, pharma, or biotechOperational roles supporting lab functions across various industries

Internship Nmr Spectroscopy positions focus on learning and assisting with NMR analysis in research settings, often for students or recent graduates. Laboratory Technicians perform routine lab tasks across various scientific fields, supporting daily lab operations. While both roles involve laboratory work, internships are more educational and specialized, whereas technician roles are more operational and broad.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship NMR Spectroscopy, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Internship NMR Spectroscopy role, a solid background in chemistry or biochemistry, basic laboratory skills, and familiarity with NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) theory are essential, usually supported by ongoing undergraduate or graduate studies. Hands-on experience with NMR spectrometers, data analysis software like TopSpin or MestReNova, and safety protocols is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help interns stand out in collaborative research environments. These skills ensure accurate data collection, meaningful interpretation of results, and contribute to successful scientific outcomes.

Job description

Job Summary

Summer intern in R&D analytical LCMS and NMR Group

We are looking for candidates who are enthusiastic about scientific research, demonstrate strong academic achievement, and possess effective communication and teamwork abilities. A solid foundation in laboratory work, computer science, or cheminformatics is required, while prior research experience in these areas is highly valued.

The Structural Elucidation Group investigates the structure and function of different Scent and Taste molecules by employing skills such as NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and computational sciences. The ideal candidate should have knowledge or hands-on experience with at least one of these methods and will be able to use their expertise-along with additional skills-to help advance our company's molecule ingredient pipeline.

Interns will maintain safe laboratory practices, present their data, and interpret results for a scientific team. They will also attend meetings within the department and team to gain broader insight into the Scent and Taste industry. We aim to offer in-person internships whenever possible, so future talent can fully immerse themselves in working at a Scent and Taste company.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's program related to the Scent and Taste industry, with demonstrated interest or relevant research experience.

  • Strong academic record in chemistry, computer science, biochemistry, or informatics.

  • Fundamental laboratory skills and research experience, including NMR, GC mass spectrometry, LC mass spectrometry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and laboratory safety.

  • Preferred experience in computer science and programming basics, especially related to organic chemistry.

We are a global leader in taste, scent, and nutrition, offering our customers a broader range of natural solutions and accelerating our growth strategy.
