Job description

Job Summary:

As a Sports & Recreation Coordinator, you will support the planning, coordination, and delivery of sports and recreation programs while contributing to fitness center operations, group exercise, coaching, and member engagement. This multifaceted role focuses primarily on creating and managing engaging recreational opportunities while also supporting fitness and wellness services. You will work closely with team members, client contacts, and community partners to deliver safe, inclusive, and high-quality programs and experiences for facility users.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide fitness coaching, personal training, and exercise instruction in a safe, professional, and engaging manner.

  • Conduct fitness assessments and develop or update training programs based on individual goals and needs.

  • Teach and/or support group exercise classes, emphasizing proper technique, safety, and participant engagement.

  • Support daily fitness center operations, including facility standards, equipment maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and customer service.

  • Plan, coordinate, promote, and execute sports leagues, tournaments, events, and recreational programs.

  • Manage program logistics including schedules, rosters, registrations, equipment, facilities, and event setup.

  • Build positive relationships with members and client contacts through consistent, proactive engagement and exceptional customer service.

  • Partner with the client and internal teams to deliver activities, events, and programs that support engagement, education, and community.

  • Track participation, attendance, engagement, outreach, and other operational metrics; use feedback and data to support program improvements.

  • Participate in program design, planning, development, and evaluation across fitness, wellness, sports, and recreation.

  • Follow established safety, risk management, facility, and operational policies and appropriately document and report incidents or concerns.

  • Maintain required professional credentials and participate in continuing education and staff development.

  • Coordinate with internal departments, vendors, community partners, and other stakeholders as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Sports Science, or a related field.

  • 1+ years of experience in fitness, personal training, coaching, group exercise, sports, recreation, intramural activities, or a related field; relevant internships may be considered.

  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.

  • Current nationally recognized personal training certification preferred; candidates without a qualifying degree may be required to obtain an approved certification within an established timeframe.

  • Experience teaching or supporting group fitness classes preferred.

  • Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and programs simultaneously.

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace or equivalent tools.

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for fitness, sports, recreation, and creating positive user experiences.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members, client contacts, vendors, and participants.

  • Energy, initiative, and a passion for helping others achieve their personal goals.
