What is the difference between Internship Next Generation Sequencing vs Laboratory Technician?

AspectInternship Next Generation SequencingLaboratory Technician
Required CredentialsTypically pursuing or recent graduate in biology, genetics, or related fieldAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in laboratory sciences or related field
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, biotech companies, or academic institutionsClinical, research, or industrial laboratories
Employer & Industry UsageBiotech firms, research institutions, genomics companiesHospitals, diagnostic labs, research facilities
Common Search & ComparisonInternship Next Generation Sequencing vs Laboratory Technician

Internship Next Generation Sequencing roles focus on gaining hands-on experience with sequencing technologies and data analysis, often for students or recent graduates. Laboratory Technicians perform routine lab tasks, including sample preparation and equipment maintenance, in various lab settings. While both roles involve working in laboratory environments, internships emphasize learning and training, whereas technician roles involve ongoing operational duties.

What types of projects or tasks can an intern expect to work on during a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) internship?

As an NGS intern, you can expect to support a variety of projects ranging from sample preparation and library construction to data analysis using bioinformatics tools. Interns often assist with quality control, troubleshooting, and interpreting sequencing results under the guidance of experienced scientists. You may also collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including molecular biologists, data analysts, and laboratory technicians, gaining hands-on experience with both wet-lab and computational methods. These tasks provide valuable exposure to the entire NGS workflow and can help you identify specific areas of interest for further career development.

What is an Internship in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)?

An Internship in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is a temporary position that allows students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience with advanced DNA sequencing technologies in a laboratory or research environment. Interns typically assist with sample preparation, data analysis, and interpretation of sequencing results under the guidance of experienced professionals. This role helps participants develop practical skills in genomics, bioinformatics, and molecular biology, which are valuable for future careers in biological research, healthcare, or biotechnology.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Intern in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), and why are they important?

To thrive as an Intern in Next Generation Sequencing, you need a background in molecular biology, genetics, or a related field, with foundational laboratory skills and coursework. Familiarity with NGS platforms (such as Illumina or Oxford Nanopore), basic bioinformatics tools, and data analysis software is highly valuable. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are important soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure accurate experimental results, effective collaboration, and meaningful contributions to research projects.

Job description

Company Description
From the very beginning, we have been focusing on the science. We came together as a team of experts, committed to quality, driven by excellence, and dedicated to experimentation. Though we faced many challenges, we remained fearless in our research and rigorous in our thinking, pushing ourselves to work harder. However, what affected us the most was the enormous burden patient's bear and the difficulties they face, which drove us to think about what's next.
We believe it is time to accelerate and expand that transformation. At Legend Biotech, we are excited to bring clinical trials to patients in our pursuit of a cure. While we are focusing on CAR-T in multiple myeloma, we firmly believe the prospects of cellular therapy stretch beyond just one disease or indication. The spark of hope is lit. At Legend Biotech, we are using that hope to ignite the future of CAR-T cell therapy.
