The Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) is part of Caterpillarโ€™s Power & Energy segment. About LEC (Lafayette Engine Center)

The Lafayette Engine Center (LEC) opened and began developing and manufacturing Cat 3500 engines in 1982. Since then, our facility has incorporated the Cat 3600 and C175 product lines into its operations, helping Caterpillar become the worldโ€™s leading manufacturer of off-highway diesel and natural gas engines.

The units built at LEC power mining trucks carrying ore to be processed, tugboats guiding ships to harbor, drill rigs tapping oil and gas reserves and generators bringing electricity to communities, hospitals and data centers. Job Summary

Caterpillar hires top talent โ€“ and this program is all about developing the next generation of Large Engine business experts in our order to delivery (OTD) function. The purpose of the Lafayette OTD Rotational Program (LORP) is to harness your ability and energy, developing you for a career in engine manufacturing. We invest in you through training and development opportunities so that you may not only fulfill your personal career and development ambition, but provide excellent service to Caterpillar and especially, Caterpillar Large Engine customers.

The LORP program is a three-year rotational development program, consisting of three 1-year rotational assignments in the Large Engine business, based in Lafayette, Indiana. Assignments vary by business need, providing on-the-job learning with challenging deliverables. You will work in various functional areas, gaining a broad understanding of both the Large Engine business and customers. Upon completion of the program, LORP graduates are placed in an assignment that continues to demand technical and leadership excellence gained through the program.

You will gain a wealth of experience while in the development program in roles focused on quality, manufacturing engineering, supply chain planning, logistics, operations supervision and more! LORP offers you a broad exposure to Caterpillarโ€™s large engine business. You will be presented diverse project responsibilities, engaging you in global teams, cross-functional job experiences and valuable networking opportunities with all levels of Caterpillar leadership.

Degree Requirements:
  • A current student, or recent grad, attending a 4-year accredited university/college earning a minimum Bachelorsโ€™ degree in one of the following degree programs: Agricultural Engineering | Electrical Engineering/Technology| Industrial Engineering/Technology| Manufacturing Systems | Manufacturing Engineering/Technology| Materials Science Engineering | Mechanical Engineering/Technology| Operations Management | Technical Systems Management

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0 scale (no rounding)

  • Graduation date of May 2027 or earlier
