Job description

Description:

At Nassco, buying isn’t just about placing orders—it’s about building partnerships, shaping product strategy, and helping our business grow. We’re looking for an experienced Buyer who thrives in a fast-paced distribution environment and enjoys owning their category from strategy to execution.

This role is ideal for someone who loves working with suppliers, digging into data, spotting opportunities, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver the right products at the right time—for our customers and our sales teams.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Buyer at Nassco, you’ll take full ownership of assigned product categories, managing a large and diverse supplier base while ensuring inventory health, strong margins, and outstanding fill rates. You’ll be hands-on every day—placing purchase orders, negotiating with vendors, and solving supply challenges—while also playing a strategic role in shaping category direction and sourcing new opportunities.

You will:

  • Build and grow relationships with 100+ vendors across thousands of SKUs
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new sourcing opportunities—both domestic and international
  • Lead category reviews and develop strategies that drive growth, profitability, and efficiency
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, minimums, and delivery to meet or exceed company goals
  • Partner closely with Sales, Customer Service, and Supply Chain to support customer needs
  • Analyze market trends, costs, and supply risks to stay ahead of change
  • Proactively manage inventory levels, turns, GMROI, and fill rates
  • Tackle supply challenges head-on, from back orders to discontinued items
  • Take ownership of slow-moving and obsolete inventory
  • Serve as a product expert and trusted resource for internal teams
  • Step in as backup support for other buyers when needed

Requirements:

What You Bring

You’re someone who blends strong analytical skills with relationship-building savvy. You’re organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable making informed decisions—sometimes independently, sometimes in collaboration with leadership.

We’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in purchasing and sourcing within a distribution environment
  • Strong supplier management and negotiation skills
  • The ability to influence cross-functional partners toward shared goals
  • Comfort working with data to drive smart buying and inventory decisions
  • Excellent organization, follow-through, and multitasking skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution skills
  • ERP system expertise—you’re the go-to person others rely on
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field, combined with relevant internships, co-op experience, or 1–2 years of professional experience, or 5+ years of related professional experience, in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
