EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree in Audiology required. AuD preferred.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:
Current license in Audiology issued by applicable state Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists. Eligible for Board Certified in Audiology (ABA Certification) or Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology. Minimum 30 hours of specialty evaluation such as ABR, tinnitus, Baha, cochlear implant, ECOG, or vestibular patients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs comprehensive, professional evaluation of patients of all ages, primarily adults, referred for differential diagnosis of peripheral hearing and auditory function.
2. Ensures that patients and/or their families are thoroughly counseled about any hearing or auditory impairment. Provides individual counseling to each patient evaluated. Expands counseling to include members of extended family where requested by the patient and in the case of neonates, children, or dependent adults.
3. Acts as audiology consultant to educational, medical, and other professional service. Continuously seeks to improve patient care services and evaluates opportunities to develop new services.
4. Provides and participates in the in-service education and training of audiology interns, medical students/residents, parent groups, and allied medical personnel. Prepares and presents formal lectures to physicians, nurses, educators, parent groups and others on hearing loss, audiology, and communication disorders. Provides training for audiology interns who rotate through the department from approved academic training programs for clinical practicum.
5. Ensures age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.
6. Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Proven competency in evaluation of complex hearing losses, aural rehabilitation, and dispensing of assistive devices as shown by internal evaluation and departmental competencies Possesses a strong, clinical interest and maintains versatility, creativity and adaptability Strong interest in adult population Knowledge and demonstration of complex masking cases and overmasking Knowledge and demonstrated skill of complex acoustic reflex patterns requiring otologic management
