At Intrepidus Surgical Institute, you'll work alongside a dynamic team of anesthesia providers, surgeons, and healthcare professionals supporting high-quality outpatient ophthalmologic and vision surgical procedures. We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly skilled Medical Billing and Coding Specialist who understands the complexities of anesthesia reimbursement and takes pride in driving accurate billing, clean claims, and optimized revenue cycle performance.

Compensation

$30.00 - $40.00 per hour
Compensation is based on experience, certifications, anesthesia billing expertise, and overall qualifications.


What You'll Do

As a key member of our revenue cycle team, you will manage the full scope of anesthesia billing and coding functions within the ASC setting, including:


Billing & Claims Management

  • Prepare, review, and submit accurate anesthesia claims to commercial payers, Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance carriers
  • Verify anesthesia documentation including:
    • Time units
    • Base units
    • Physical status modifiers
    • CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding
    • Provider and case information
  • Resolve claim denials, rejections, underpayments, and payment discrepancies
  • Submit corrected claims, appeals, and supporting documentation
  • Maintain complete and accurate billing documentation within EMR and billing systems

ASC & Ophthalmology Billing Support

  • Coordinate billing processes related to outpatient ophthalmologic and vision surgical procedures
  • Review operative schedules, anesthesia records, and supporting documentation to ensure accurate billing data
  • Collaborate with scheduling and authorization teams to verify insurance coverage and required authorizations
  • Support communication between anesthesia providers, surgeons, and ASC leadership regarding documentation and reimbursement matters
  • Maintain knowledge of payer requirements specific to ASC and anesthesia services

Accounts Receivable & Collections

  • Follow up on unpaid, delayed, and denied claims
  • Manage aging accounts receivable and assigned claim queues
  • Research and resolve reimbursement issues in a timely manner
  • Respond professionally to patient billing inquiries
  • Identify denial and reimbursement trends to support process improvement initiatives

Coding & Compliance

  • Ensure compliant coding and billing practices consistent with payer guidelines and anesthesia billing regulations
  • Maintain working knowledge of:
    • CPT
    • ICD-10
    • HCPCS
    • Anesthesia modifiers
    • ASC reimbursement methodologies
  • Support HIPAA compliance and internal audits
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient, financial, and operational information

Administrative & Team Support

  • Post payments, adjustments, refunds, and reconciliations accurately
  • Assist with month-end reporting and reconciliation processes
  • Participate in workflow and billing efficiency improvement initiatives
  • Support cross-functional communication throughout the ASC

Requirements


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years of medical billing experience
  • Minimum 2 years of anesthesia billing experience
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding
    • Anesthesia modifiers
    • Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines
    • Time-based anesthesia billing methodologies
    • ASC reimbursement processes
  • Proficiency with EMR systems, billing software, and Microsoft Office
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical abilities
  • Strong communication and customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree
  • Prior ASC billing experience
  • CPB (Certified Professional Biller)
  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder)
  • AAPC credentialing

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Full-Time | Non-Exempt
  • Monday-Thursday
  • 7:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Schedule may vary based on surgical case load and operational needs
  • This position is open to remote work after introductory period

This role is primarily sedentary and based within a professional Ambulatory Surgery Center environment. The position involves extended computer work, collaboration with clinical and administrative teams, and occasional movement throughout the facility.
