About Caribe Youth Saturday Academy

The Math & Reading Tutoring Program (CYSA)โ€™s vision is to provide the environment, resources, and inspiration for all our students enabling them to improve their skills and understanding of Math and Reading comprehension.

The small tutor to student ratio provides targeted assistance to meet the studentsโ€™ needs and at the same time ensures high quality curriculum regardless of the studentsโ€™ economic background.

New Tutors must be able to commit to the 1-2 training/orientation sessions as well for all the scheduled tutoring sessions typically but not exclusive on Saturdayโ€™s.

The Tutoring Program runs alongside the school academic year. Three (3) sessions: September to November, January to March, and April to June. Adhering to the guidelines set forth by the CDC and CT. governs office, all classes will be held Saturday mornings from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. The program will be dedicated to Math instruction, reading comprehension and creative writing skills. Tutoring sessions will begin at 9:00 am and end at 12:30 pm. Then Tutors will meet to debrief with the Director to discuss student performance, action plan and program business.

Requirements:

Tutors will be required to demonstrate and have some knowledge of elementary/ middle/ high school Math and Reading curriculum and the ability to teach in an engaging manner. Class sizes will generally average 4 students per 1 tutor. Tutors are required to provide study sheets from curriculum tutorials.

Material:

Tutors are provided with teaching curriculum material per the grade they are assigned to tutor.

We are looking for tutors that are highly motivated, creative flexible, and reliable individuals who have strong communication and organizational skills and a passion for helping students succeed.

Tutors should:

  • Be self-motivated, responsible, friendly, hardworking, and professional.
  • Have the potential to motivate and connect with grammar to middle school students. Prior experience working with grammar school students is a plus.

ยท Be comfortable speaking in front of a small group of students.

ยท Be highly skilled in the areas of math, reading comprehension, writing and grammar. Math, Teaching, English, Art Psychology and Engineering majors are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Be excellent communicators both with their students and with the Caribe staff.
  • Possess an impressive academic background. A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred but not required.
  • Highly preferred Tutors to have some creative abilities in arts & crafts, S.T.E.M. projects and public speaking skills
  • Be able to attend all required tutor trainings, all Saturday classes and debrief meetings with the Education Director
