NOTICE OF POSITION
POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Pascal Mubenga, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of curriculum committee members for the following committee to serve as needed from September 2026 to June 2027.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must meet all of the following requirements:
  • Hold a valid New York State teacher certification in Early Childhood
  • Be currently employed by the Buffalo Public Schools as a teacher or instructional staff member
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the New York State Prekindergarten Learning Standards (NYSPKLS) and the New York State Early Learning Guidelines (NYSELG)
  • Currently be serving in one of the following roles:
    • Prekindergarten classroom teacher
    • Elementary Classroom Teacher with prior PK Experience
    • Prekindergarten instructional coach
    • Department Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA)
The Prekindergarten Department is particularly seeking candidates with experience or specialization in:
  • Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Instruction (CLRI)
  • Multilingual Education / Emergent Multilingual Learners
  • Special Education
  • Instructional Technology (IT) Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience in Prekindergarten instruction or leadership.

DUTIES:
Committee members will work in collaboration with Early Childhood subject area administrators and district leadership. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Reviewing and evaluating proposed Prekindergarten mathematics textbook and instructional resources using district-approved evaluation tools and rubrics
  • Analyzing alignment of instructional materials to the NYSPKLS and other applicable state standards
  • Providing professional feedback on instructional quality, equity, accessibility, and developmental appropriateness
  • Participating in scheduled committee meetings, work sessions, and vendor presentations within a mandated timeline
  • Assisting in the development of curriculum-related documents and recommendations to support district-wide implementation
  • Participating in professional development to build capacity related to instructional materials evaluation and adoption processes
Committee members must be able to work collaboratively, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality throughout the adoption process.
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
SALARY: Committee members will be paid at the contractual rate.
