Job description

Deliver delightful and innovative shopping experiences for Amazon customers everywhere. You will work directly with design, product, and technical leaders to build, test, deliver, and maintain new systems that improve the Amazon shopping experience. One of the ways that we help deliver new experiences to customers is through our internal AI-powered design tool, Stores Designer.
Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer on the Shopping Design Tech team, you will:
- Deliver features and improvements to major portions of the codebase, working closely with stakeholders and peers to understand customer problems and ensure you build the right solutions
- Tackle difficult problems with visible risks, bringing clarity and identifying simple solutions while understanding customer impact
- Leveraging AI-powered workflows, design software solutions to enable new features or improve existing ones, aligning with your team's long-term architectural strategy
- Demonstrate operational excellence in all of your work, actively participating in operational support and ensuring root causes of issues are identified and resolved
- Earn trust with design, product, and engineering partners, demonstrating empathy, candor, and backbone through all levels of communication
A day in the life
A day in the life will include:
- Designing and implementing innovative shopping features and experiences that delight customers
- Collaborating closely with designers, product managers, and other engineers to turn concepts into high-quality, scalable code
- Working across the full software development lifecycle, including scoping, design review, code implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance
- Balancing speed of execution with architectural requirements
- Continuously learning and expanding your skills to keep pace with evolving technologies and customer needs
About the team
The mission of the Shopping Design Tech team is to build magical shopping experiences that customers use daily and love. We are part of a group that includes product and design leaders who design the Amazon shopping experience for customers. We build the features that make it easy for customers to discover, evaluate, and transact on Amazon. We enable Amazon builders with design patterns, systems, tools, and best practices to design a cohesive and delightful shopping CX. We also own an internal AI-powered design tool called Stores Designer.
Your stakeholders include design, product, and engineering leadership, all of whom rely on your expertise and guidance to deliver exceptional shopping experiences for Amazon customers.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
